Time has proven, however, that race and ethnicity are examples of diverse dimensions characters by inequality. These determine how the United States distributes resources, such as school funding, grants to communities, scholarships and so on. The US Bureau of Census has delineated the following racial classification, requiring all federal agencies to use these categories on their data collection and analysis: American Indian and Alaskan Native Asian Black or African American Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islander White Hispanics/Latinos are a separate classification because they are considered to be an ethic group, rather than a single race, and distinguished by culture. Thus, each of the race classifications has a subcategory of Hispanic and non-Hispanic. The diverse dimensions of race and ethnicity are significant ways people define themselves and others. They impact relationships, neighborhoods, schools, work, politics, and the media. Looking at the above information and reflecting on the course content, can you associate any of the socialization methods discussed to your ethnic heritage? Why or why not?
