Between 1870 and 1920, skilled American workers joined forces with unskilled, immigrant factory workers to form unions and press for better conditions for all.   4. Since 1934, most U.S. companies concede that workers have the right to join unions, and allow organizing drives to take place. They believe unions are good for workers and for their companies.
