Writing Assignment: Gender & Society Paper For this paper students will explore 1 of 2 topics: Gender, Toys and Color Coding OR Sexuality and the Media and write a 1-page response paper. OPTION 1: Gender Coding: For this assignment you will investigate gender stereotyping and structure and discuss how color coding and symbolism reinforces gender and play. Toys, clothes, décor, and accessories have a significant influence on our notions of gender expression. How are gender constructions changing in America? OPTION 2: Sexuality & the Media: For the second paper option, students will have the opportunity to explore sexuality and the media. Students will be expected to watch a TV show, movie or read a current magazine and identify perceptions of sexuality that are being conveyed in todays culture. How do images and language affect gender socialization and ideas of sexuality? Do you agree or disagree with conceptions of gender/sexuality being presented? Are they relevant and authentic to everyday life? What are the implications of these images?
