Transportation Engineering

Class –below are the instructions for assignment 1. Please keep in mind that the overall goal of class this week, and by nature the goal of this assignment, is to understand how strategic factors affect our transportation infrastructure and systems. Please also note that I included the criteria that I will use to grade the assignments this is so you know what I am looking for and how I will fairly assign grades.

However, I do encourage risk taking and creative ideas. Most assignments following this will be numerical in nature, which leaves less room for risk and creativity (but it makes us all feel better to work with numbers). This is your chance to think outside the box and look into a topic linked to transportation engineering and alocalcommunity or state.

I will assign each of you a state. Assignment Instructions Read the 2019 version of the TRB Critical Issues document, which can be found with this assignment on Blackboard. Select one of the critical issues, and type no more than 2 pages and no less than 1 page single spaced to address the following:

How has this issue affected your local community or your state? Include at least two references from reputable non-partisan sources (e.g., agency reports, etc.) that back up your statements. Local or state newspapers can be used, but it must come from reporting and not op-eds; if you can’t tell the difference then don’t use it. 

How do you envision this issue affecting or being affected by the design of our transportation facilities?
