Our recent class lectures have focused on critical thinking and critical writing. As noted by Paul and Elder (2006), “much of our thinking, left to itself, is biased, distorted, partial, uninformed, or down-right prejudiced. Yet the quality of our life and that of what we produce, make, or build, depends on the quality of our thought.”Your assignment is to reflect on Paul and Elder’s statement in the context of your own life and/or education. Given the vast differences in our lives, I expect that your reflections will differ widely, and I do not wish to place constraints on your reflection. But the authors we have examined have made plausible the idea that “excellence in thought must be systematically cultivated” (Paul and Elder (2006). In ~300 words, reflect on a specific aspect of your life and/or education. In doing so, be sure to draw on our recent course lectures. This assignment is due in class, in hard copy, on Oct 22, 2019. You have also required to post a copy of your assignment in PDF format on Brightspace in the Dropbox folder “Reflection Essay assignment”. A mark out of 10 will be awarded on grammar, clarity, and depth of thought, as well as your ability to follow directions. Please follow the directions for submitting assignments, as outlined in the course syllabus. Also, ensure that your name and student number are on the essay. Your paper should have a brief introduction and conclusion. Check your paper closely for grammar and spelling.
