The main objective of this project is to reduce the time taken for a wound to heal. This objective seeks to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of care and care processes. Therefore, the following outcomes are related to increased effectiveness in enhancing wound healing. GCU NRS 493 FDA Regulatory Pathways for Medical Devices Discussion The outcomes are based on the benefits of effective wound management and the reduction of time taken for a wound to heal while the patient is under nursing care. The change project aims to improve patient experiences and care quality and safety through better wound care. Outcome 1: To reduce the average time taken for complete wound healing Wound healing is a complex process that takes variable timing depending on the severity and type of wound affecting the patient. Enhanced healing means that the time that a wound takes to heal is reduced, reducing the time that the patient undergoes pain associated with the wound and other risks and health conditions tied to it. Outcome 2: To reduce the length of hospital stay connected to wound care Reduced length of stay in healthcare settings is a quantitative measure of care quality, which many organizations use to determine the efficiency and effectiveness of care processes (Chang et al., 2017). The severity of wounds determines the need for patient admission and retention in the hospital; hence reduced length of stay shows increased effectiveness and care efficiency. Outcome 3: To reduce the rates of wound infections in the healthcare organization Wound infections emerge due to the pathological infiltration of bacteria in underlying tissue when the skin is impaired and could lead to life-threatening conditions such as sepsis (Negut, Grumezescu, & Grumezescu, 2018). Reduction in the rates of wound infections is crucial for CHANGE PROJECT OUTCOMES 3 wound care because it increases patients’ safety while reducing the risk of health complications arising from wound care. Outcome 4: To increase patient satisfaction with wound care and related nursing care activities The quality of care and experience in the healthcare setting are correlated to patient satisfaction. Wound care is an essential nursing service that determines the quality of care and patient experiences in the healthcare organization, increasing patient satisfaction through better wound care. Outcome 5: To reduce the average patient-rated pain intensity due to the occurrence of wounds Skin impairment and the occurrence of a wound are accompanied by pain, which requires effective pain management by nurses to ensure patient satisfaction and reduce pain in line with ethical nursing practice. Effective wound management is expected to reduce the intensity of pain experienced by patients and increase their satisfaction with healthcare services and interaction with the health providers. Wound care integrates several aspects, including the process of wound healing, patient experiences, pain management, length of hospital stay, and prevention of wound infections.GCU NRS 493 FDA Regulatory Pathways for Medical Devices Discussion The described outcomes revolve around the central objective of enhancing wound healing hence increasing patient satisfaction, care quality, and safety. This project will achieve multiple outcomes that are hypothesized to enhance care quality and safety for patients with wounds. CHANGE PROJECT OUTCOMES 4 References Chang, A. Nurses have to keep researching and discovering new nursing aspects to ensure that they remain updated in the new laws, technologies, and competencies that develop. This week, one of the new nursing approaches that I discussed with my preceptor is telehealth nursing. Telehealth nursing has become an essential aspect of nursing currently, mainly because of COVID-19, it has led to patients’ need to seek healthcare from home. Telehealth technologies allow people to access nursing and other healthcare services without having to attend physical sessions. For telehealth to be effective, it needs good collaboration between nurses and physicians. In telehealth, patients may need prescriptions from physicians and care from nurses who are both not physically present. Therefore, various professionals must work together to ensure that patients are not confused. While nurses maybe with the patients in some cases, but doctors be away, the communication between the two professionals is essential. Failure to communicate effectively may be a barrier to the process of delivering care (van Houwelingen et al., 2016). The collaboration should also include aspects that affect the relationships between patients and professionals like privacy and confidentiality. Nurses must always ensure that the technology used in communication does not allow information to reach people. Therefore should be adequate security of the data shared between nurses and the patients to ensure that ethical bounds are maintained and that the patients’ rights are not violated. GCU NRS 493 FDA Regulatory Pathways for Medical Devices Discussion The use of telehealth nursing is meant to ensure that even though people may have problems physically attending to their healthcare needs by visiting professionals in their offices, they still get dignified treatment via ICT. Recently, the CMS has changed its policy to allow medical professionals’ reimbursement for services offered via telehealth services. It is essential to consider the laws to avoid suits (Park et al., 2016). The new policy has allowed WEEK 4 3 patients across the country to benefit from services they would have missed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The pandemic that spreads easily led to social distancing and made it impossible for the traditional means of healthcare delivery to be effective. Therefore, telehealth has filled the gap that resulted and ensured that people still get services without going to hospitals where their risk of getting Coronavirus may be high. Also, telehealth only works for services that do not need a physical presence. For instance, telehealth can be useful for checkups where the nurse or doctor may ask the patient questions via video calls or phone calls to know their progress and prescribe medication for their conditions. In conclusion, nurses have to continuously consider new developments and apply them to benefit their patients. From recent literature, telehealth is among the most recent developments that have been effective in combating Coronavirus. Nurses must consider using the new care model, especially for patients who are not high-risk cases, to reduce the congestion in practices and ensure that their services are accessible to all the people in need. The CMS now considers telehealth as seriously as in-person services. WEEK 4 4 References Park, H. J., Cho, D. Y., Park, Y. S., Kim, S. W., Park, J. H., & Park, N. C. (2016).
