What is respect? Would gang members’ definitions of the term be similar to or differ from your own perception?
The gang culture is of a way of life; most gang members are expected to be members for life. Therefore, the most important attribute a gang member can display to another gang member is respect and any form of disrespect will most likely be met with extreme prejudice (Delaney, 2013).
For this week’s class discussion, please respond to the following:
Explain what is meant by “the code of the street.”
Describe the ramifications of violating the code.
Explore how this code should influence law enforcement’s behavior when dealing with the gang.
