Functions of DSM

Despite revisions, the purposes of the DSM have stayed the same. According to the preface, the first purpose of the DSM is to provide a guide for treatment by facilitating an accurate diagnosis. Other goals include facilitating research, improving communication, collecting clinical information, and serving as an educational tool. Write a brief paper (2-3 pages in APA format, double spaced). In your paper describe each purpose and give an example of how the DSM is used for that purpose in your current work environment or in a future role to which you aspire. Comment on how understanding the DSM (or this course) will help you be more successful as professional in the future.  Remember to include an introductory paragraph that helps prepare the reader for what you will be writing about in your paper.  As part of your conclusion section, also weave in what you learned from writing this paper.
