Directions: Access the Getting Started folder in this module for the assigned readings for the week. After you complete the readings, complete this assignment.

Conduct an Internet search for clinical decision support (CDS) systems. Browse several of the hits, and make a list of the areas in which technology is available for the clinical decision-making process. In addition, select a vendor who offers a demonstration of their clinical decision-making product. Write a report summarizing your findings and discuss the following questions:

• What areas seem to be most commonly associated with CDS systems?
• The textbook notes that CDS systems should be accurate, adaptive, unobtrusive, and usable as a normal part of clinical activity. Does the product you selected meet these criteria?
• Make a list of the types of information you would have needed to design a CDS system for these activities:
  • When teaching a patient, what would you include in the list with the details? Give at least 3 examples.
  • When giving medications, what would you include in the list of instructions (e.g., potential interactions)? Give at least 3 examples.
