After reading chapters three through five and gain an understanding of the impacts of citizen responses to crime, answer the following questions:

1.) Does prison provide a deterrent effect? Why or why not? Be sure to use some specific examples.

2.) Describe the correlation between race and punishment. What groups are likely to receive the most harsh punishments within the criminal justice system? Why?

3.) Describe how racial profiling impacts crime rates. Discuss additional reasons why some individuals may be targeted by he criminal justice system in the post 9-11 era.

4.) Should private citizens be involved in crime fighting to protect their own homes or personal property? Why or why not. Be sure to provide specific examples to support your rationale.
