Core Concept of Writing

WRITE: There are two parts to this writing assignment. The finished paper should be at least two full pages in length. Part 1: Text messages and/or tweets are a common form of social communication in the 21st century. Review several of your recent text/tweet communications (both sent and received).  Now, write a brief style guide for text messaging and/or tweeting.  In your style guide, include what you believe are the main rules for writing text messages or tweets to specific audiences and for specific purposes. Include any advice that you think writers should heed when writing texts or tweets.  Also include common abbreviations that writers of text messages or tweets use. Consider the different ways that people might use texts and tweets.  Part 2: Compare your style guide (from part 1) to standard academic writing.  What are the main differences and similarities between the two?  What might the differences suggest about the role of the medium, audience, purpose, and context in writing.  FORMATTING GUIDELINES: If you are unfamiliar with MLA style guidelines and are unsure how to format a Microsoft WORD document, please use the MLA-formatted template attached to Step 4.  Provide an appropriate title for your report. Use Times New Roman or Arial 12-pt font. Double-space each line of the document.
