Clashing Views

For this assignment, please read the Clashing Views: Are Opiates Overprescribed?” and “Physicians object to required training to prescribe opioid painkillers articles provided on Blackboard.  This response paper will then “respond” to the information you read.  Part 1. Read carefully and critically. In your own words, summarize both sides of this debate.  What stood out to you?  What interested you?

Did something excite or offend you? Part 2. Reflect on your reading.  What do you think about this material?  Why might you think this? What in the readings provoked a reaction? What sticks with you after your reading and reflection?  Part 3. Take a stance.  Which side of this debate do you support?  How can you support this belief? What other scholarly resources or articles by professionals in the field (not mentioned in the two given readings) also support your belief?

Have a clear thesis statement and support your argument. A strong paper may not convince your reader to change his or her mind about the topic, but should leave them with a more complete understanding of what you think and why.  Part 4. Significance and summary.  This is the, “and so what” moment.  Why should anyone care about this topic?  Conclude by reiterating your thesis statement and what you want your reader to take away from your work.
