Your essay is not just a description of the site. — textbook: Tourists & Tourism A Reader (Sharon Gmelch & Adam Kaul) Give a brief description of the site or attraction (2-3 paragraphs). This should include a physical description of the site as well as some background information (if available, on how many people visit the site annually, when it opened, etc.) Identify the kind of tourism at this site (nature, historical, cultural, etc.) How did you experience this site? Describe your “gaze.” What were your expectations? Were they met? Why or why not? Analyze how the site represents itself to visitors (markers, plaques, signs, brochures, websites, guide books, etc.). What aspects of the site are highlighted or marketed? Who is the target audience? How is the site or attraction constructed? What are visitors guided to see or experience at the site? Synthesize and contextualize your chosen site within course readings on similar types of sites (historical, natural, cultural, etc.). Depending on the type of site you chose, you may find some useful additional resources in the Online Resources documents in all the course modules. Your instructor may use Turnitin to assess if you have plagiarized. I will use the writing rubric to guide my evaluation of your paper.
