Cause and Effect Essay on Refugees

OUT OF CLASS ESSAY #3: CAUSE AND EFFECT WEIGHT: Outline/first draft: 10 points. BS will close the site at 11:30pm SECOND/DRAFT IN ESSAY FORM: Monday, December 7 by 11:30pm. As Elizabeth Penfield discusses in chapters 6 and 7 of Short Takes: Model Essays for Composition, a process analysis paper discusses HOW something happened while a cause or effect paper explores WHY something happened. When you write a Cause or Effect paper, you want to discuss both causes and/or effects briefly, but the paper MUST concentrate on one only: the causes of the phenomenon or the effects of it. In preparation for the cause/effect essay and to ensure you organize your work logically, you will write the first (complete) draft in outline form very much like you did for essays #1 and #2. Your outline should include the thesis, topic sentences for each body paragraph and examples as evidence for each reason. Again, you need to provide three (3) reasons (whys) for the assertion or claim you will make and develop clear, strong, and descriptive topic sentences for each body paragraph. For more help, you should review chapters 7 and 8 of Penfield’s book and the essays included in it. After completing the outline, you should use the pointers Penfield provides at the end of the chapter to check, revise, and proofread your work. MAKE SURE TO USE TRANSITIONS TO DEVELOP THE TOPIC SENTENCES FOR EACH PARAGRAPH (SEE G. GRAFF ON THIS MATTER).
