The Civil War

Read at least 4 sections (living in camp, drinking & smoking, whittling, etc.) plus look at several photos per section. Next, listen to the Gettysburg Address on the second site. This is only a three minute segment, and it’s one of the most impressive presidential speeches in American history. It’s worth your time! Under no circumstances should you Google the Address and write what you find. Someone else’s analysis of the Address will get you into plagiarism trouble every time. Just listen and write your response to Lincoln’s words. Finally, go to the third topic, Team of Rivals.
Although you can read the transcript of this interview, let me encourage you to LISTEN to the podcast if you are able. The historian, Doris Kearns Goodwiin, has wonderful insights into Lincoln, both politically and personally. It’s only ten minutes, and, in my opinion, you’ll find it much more enjoyable and relaxing than the printed transcript. Take very brief notes while you’re reading and listening, then log off the site and write an essay about the three sites.
Discuss and analyze without summarizing. Essays with fewer than the minimum 750 words will always receive a zero. Please only use these 3 sources that are given, no extra outside sources. Thank you
