Coriolanus by Shakespeare
You must answer the two questions with 500 words each. question one: One of the key differences between Shakespeare’s play Coriolanus and the film version, is that Menenius commits suicide in the filmed version. What would Machiavelli think about this gesture on Menenius’s part? Would he admire it or not, and why? In your answer, you will be focusing on Machiavelli, but you can refer to both the play and the film as needed. question two: Coriolanus’s revenge in the play is immense: he wishes to bring down his former home city in order to right the wrongs he feels it has done to him. In the end, his mother persuades him to change course. In your view, given the wrongs done to him by the Roman republic, should he have ignored his mother’s pleas and continued with his original plan of revenge? Why or why not?
