Peer Socialization

Describe the “fag discourse,” and explain how it is an example of peer socialization.  2. C.J. Pascoe collected her data through participant observation, over a year and a half at a California high school.  Why is that method especially useful for her topic and her population? 3. What, according to Pascoe, is “policing the boundaries of masculinity”?  Provide examples from the interview and from what you’ve seen in your own experience.  4. What effect do you think this kind of peer socialization might have on boys and young men?  Do you think we would be better off if boys tolerated a wider range of behaviors as acceptably masculine?  This question asks for your opinion and will be graded based on your argument and use of evidence from the interview.
