Review, summarize, analyze, and evaluate a scholarly article based on the concepts and principles covered in this course to compose a Synthesis Paper. Assignment Instructions: Write a 1,000-1,500 word critical review of the article “An Anti-Liberal Argument for Religious Freedom” by John H. Garvey, 7 J. CONTEMP. LEGAL ISSUES 275 (1996). The first portion of your review should consist of a summary of the authors argument and a discussion of their methodology (i.e., how they approach and organize their argument). In other words, what is the author’s main point, or thesis? What are the means by which the author supports this thesis? Look at the author’s points of evidence, organization, and overall method for presenting this information. The second portion of the review should consist of your analysis and evaluation of their argument (*Do not begin to analyze and evaluate until you have first summarized their argument and noted their methodology*). Did the author effectively communicate his/her thesis? Why or why not? You are strongly encouraged to use other sources to bolster your analysis. It is essential that you apply each facet of what you have learned so far in this course: proper grammar, avoiding plagiarism, clarity and concision, and proper formatting and citation (according to the APA Style). This assignment will be graded on the basis of how well you have synthesized each facet of learning from this course. The review must demonstrate the same mastery of (a) grammar/punctuation, of (b) avoiding plagiarism, of (c) concision and clarity, and of (d) proper discipline-specific citation and formatting.
