Many individuals stress about retirement and how to properly plan for the lifestyle they would like to maintain. Cultural barriers or the lack of culturally specific educational material may prevent many adults from engaging in adequate financial planning for retirement. This may in turn perpetuate traditional inequality patterns. Many issues arise when considering the thought of retirement, and it is up to you to help relieve some of the worry. A reference brochure can be a concise method to summarize the available options and how to start planning for the process.
Create a 3 panel tri-fold brochure referencing the options for the aging population. Be sure to complete the following requirements:
- Select a culture or specific population as the target audience for your brochure.
- Consider a younger person from that culture still in the workforce but preparing for retirement or caring for an older individual who is going to retire soon.
- You may also consider an older member of that culture to which you will speak at a senior center or adult day care facility. You want this brochure to be a guide to help older adults with the transition.

- Social services for either the senior or his or her caregivers, which may include public and private options or costs
- Planning for retirement, including economic, housing, medical, and legal preparation
- Healthy lifestyle opportunities or health maintenance options
- Another selection approved by your faculty member
Include the resources available and the marketing schemes that may influence your target audience based on your previous selection.
Select a title for your brochure. Be creative when selecting your title; some example titles include the following:
- Preparing for Your Older Years–Targeting Generation X
- Living Longer–But Not Always Better
- Keys to Successful Aging
Ensure your brochure is at the appropriate readability index to the target audience.
Create a separate reference page with a minimum of 3 peer-reviewed references in APA format.

Aging And Its Influence On The Lives Of The Elderly Essay
Gerontology
Gerontology is the study of aging as it pertains to older people; more specifically it is the study of all the changes aging brings about and its influence on the lives of the elderly; this field of study is interested in the science of aging and how it affects the functionality and social life of senior citizens (UGA.edu). The advancements of technology and medicine has helped to greatly expand the field of gerontology and has improved the work of gerontologists and the lives of the elderly.
Gerontologist at Work
As aforementioned, gerontology is the study of the lives and interactions of the elderly, as such a gerontologist is someone who studies and works intimately with senior citizens. Those with an interest in gerontology may seek careers as researchers or to work in other fields relating to gerontology that have more direct interactions with the elderly (CareersInPsychology.org).
Some gerontologists mainly conduct research on a myriad of topics concerning the older population; participating in the scientific exploration of the physiological processes associated with aging (UGA.edu). This career path normally involves studying and researching different occurrences and aspects that may have a hand in the process of aging; some researchers may study changes in skin texture and elasticity in the elderly or diseases associated with aging, like Alzheimer’s (CareersInPsychology.org).
