Alternative Sentencing and Community Corrections
Discuss objectives and issues for alternative sentencing. Identify ways in which probation meets or fails to meet the goals of sentencing, considering how probation is not often perceived as a function of corrections. The textbook provides several examples of community corrections as a means of reintegrating formerly incarcerated persons into communities. Explain how reintegration after a term of incarceration relates to social justice and criminal justice objectives. In addition, give an example of a community corrections effort whose aim is assisting with reintegration.
