Analysis Paper

Possible Paper Topics:  1. The 1990s are seen as the first “politically correct” decade. Identify and explore some of the cultural attitudes, narratives, and conventions about a specific minority group in the 1990s. In other words, describe how a specific minority group was represented in the decade’s cultural texts. What do those representations reveal about the society’s desires, fears, and/or values? How have attitudes toward that group shifted in the last twenty years, and what should our society, now, do to further improve their representation?  2. On the surface, a music video is a commercial for a musician, band, and/or a song, and we are taught that all commercials are fiction and lies. But music videos are also seen as a unique art form, expressing a musician’s (and director’s) perspective and truths about a culture, a society, or artistic movement. This begs the question: are music videos more “fact” or “fiction”? Present both sides of the argument, but ultimately, defend one of these two positions.
