Art in the Humanities
Over the last few years statues and monuments have been included in the overall discussion about racial inequality within our society. For many years people have had to go to schools, live on streets, and celebrate holidays named for individuals who oppressed and decimated the very communities in which they live. There are also statues that celebrate these individuals as heroes. These types of cultural displays are not limited to the United States and North America, but are also present in Central and South America as well as parts of Europe. There are a variety of opinions about whether these visual representations of history should stay or go.For this weeks journal I would like for you to find an article related to your position on this subject. Do you think these historical markers should stay or go, and why? Keep in mind there is no right or wrong answer, but I do expect you to think critically about the topic, and for your critical thinking skills to reflect in the written articulation of your opinion on the subject.
