Overview
For this assignment, you will create a Theories and Models of Addiction Case Study Treatment Plan that addresses a specific substance-related or behavioral addiction. You will select one of the case studies in the media piece, Addiction Case Studies, to use as a focus for your plan.
Structure
The assignment is comprised of two main sections: An analysis of the client and a proposed therapeutic approach describing how you would work with the client with specific interventions from one of the major theoretical orientations discussed in this class. The final Theories and Models of Addiction Case Study Treatment Plan will be a single paper, 15 pages in length, not including title page or references.
Section 1: Client Description and Analysis
Describe the client by name from the case study, as well as the presenting problem, including related symptoms or health issues as they relate to the addition. First, evaluate the client using the transtheoretical model of change, then select and describe the current stage of change for this client using appropriate rationale for your choice. Next, analyze known aspects of the client from a biopsychosocial perspective, noting patterns and probable causes of the addiction to determine an applicable theoretical orientation suitable for treatment.
Describe all clinical information available from your case study, and provide any background information relevant to addiction. Include factors such as age, gender, occupation, living situation, economic status, educational history, family history, relationships, spirituality, history of substance abuse or other behaviors, coping skills, and areas of known client limitations. Indicate how the appropriate theory will be applied to this situation.
