Assignment: Current Health Needs and Drugs ORDER NOW FOR CUSTOMIZED AND ORIGINAL ESSAY PAPERS ON Assignment: Current Health Needs and Drugs Before developing a new drug, pharmaceutical companies research products that are currently on the market. In their research process, corporations may ask questions such as, “What are current health needs, and how could a new drug address these needs differently than drugs that are currently available?” or “What new innovations can counteract certain diseases?” Before fully refining the focus of any research, individuals should attempt to determine the current state of affairs in their area of interest. Walden University NURS 6431 Current Health Needs and Drugs One of the most common ways to accomplish this is to conduct a literature review. A literature review allows one to take a “snapshot” of the established knowledge in a particular area. Using this snapshot, researchers can determine the merit of their research questions and how they may need to modify their research goals. For this part of your Evaluation Project, you create a Literature Review Summary Table and synthesize the current state of research surrounding the PICO question you developed. To prepare: Review the Week 6 Learning Resources on procedures for conducting a literature review. Using your approved PICO question and relevant search terms, locate a minimum of five full-text research articles to use in your literature review. Read through the articles carefully. Eliminate studies that are not appropriate and add others to your list as needed. Although you may include more, you are expected to include a minimum of five appropriate articles. To complete Part 3 of the Evaluation Project: By Day 7 of Week 8 Complete a Literature Review Protocol Summary Table using the template in this week’s Learning Resources. Write a 1-page literature review that synthesizes the findings in the literature related to the question you developed. Explain how the literature demonstrates the significance of your PICO question topic. Describe original conclusions that you derived from the evidence you gathered. Support your synthesis and conclusions using evidence from the literature. Please refer to the attached documents before writing the paper. PICO question in nursing is used to describe the four elements of a good clinical question. It stands for: P- Patient/Problem/ Population, I- Intervention, C- Comparison, and O- Outcome. It enables one to clarify their questions, hence makes it easier to find an answer. Steps in constructing a research study that can yield usable results is a clearly stated question or hypothesis. It outlines where the study will be conducted, defines the population of interest, formulates the intervention, and selects the measures that will be utilized to collect data (Hastings & Fisher (2014). Seasoned investigators wrestle with the issue of deciding what to study and how. There is no formula, each evaluation, to some extent must be custom designed (Friedman & Wyatt (2010). A PICO question was presented to my peers for feedback, to evaluate the use of Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) systems with Electronic prescription (E-Prescription) reduce medication errors among chronic pain patients in acute care. Based on the feedback received from last week’s discussion, the following PICO question will be used for the evaluation plan: In acute care patients with chronic pain, will the use of CPOE systems with e-prescriptions compared to paper methods decrease medication errors? The population or problem focuses on patients with chronic pain in acute care. The intervention is the reliability of using CPOE systems with e-prescriptions. The comparator is paper methods of documentation and paper prescriptions. The outcome is the reduction in medication errors with the new technology. PICO is an acronym used to assist researchers in developing well-worded questions that facilitate the search for evidence (Davies, 2011). The acronym stands for population or patients, intervention, comparison, and outcome (Davies, 2011). A well-developed PICO question will guide the research process and reduce time wasted looking through journals (Burns & Chung, 2010). Following the PICO acronym will assist you in building a question that is clinically relevant, well-thought-out, and answerable (Burns & Chung, 2010). According to Quentin, Partanen, Brownwood, & Klazinga (2019), quality is a theoretical concept, having different meanings in different contexts, making it harder to measure directly. The use of CPOE system has essentially eliminated the need for handwritten paper orders. Hence, enabled healthcare organizations to cut down on unnecessary costs through increased efficiency (Charles et.al, 2014). References Burns, P. B., & Chung, K. C. (2010).
