Please follow the instruction Your task is to use the Food Access Research Atlas to create a map of the city/community of your choice looking at whether or not it is a low-access community and/or a low income community. Take a screen shot or download your map. This site presents a spatial overview of food access indicators for low-income and other census tracts using different measures of supermarket accessibility; provides food access data for populations within census tracts; and offers census-tract-level data on food access that can be downloaded for community planning or research purposes. Finally, write a short reflection (250-500 words) describing the food desert situation in the city you chose. Why or why not do you speculate food deserts exist in this locale based on the video and the readings. You can create maps to show the following: Access and proximity to grocery stores Store availability Restaurant availability and expenditures Food Assistance State Food Insecurity Food Prices and Taxes Local Foods Health and Physical Activity Socioeconomic Characteristics Your task is to create a 3 maps (data is shown at the county level,) based on the indicators above, of the same geographic area. Screen shot the maps and then write a reflection (250-500 words) on how and why these indicators might be related in your area based on this weeks video and readings.
