Visit a museum or art gallery online before the end of Week 9. Using the online museum or gallery as a model, then “create your own museum.” The museum or gallery should contain art or artifacts from the time period you are studying in this course: From Ancient Times to 1600. Feel free to use your textbook as a guide as well. For this paper, you will select and curate a minimum of 5–10 works of art by 5–10 different artists to include in your own art museum. Use your textbook and online sources to help you find these works of art. A good resource for this assignment is the Google Arts and Culture website from the Google Cultural Institute. Here you can immerse yourself in cultural experiences across art, history and wonders of the world—from more than a thousand museums across 70 countries. Please select only artifacts from Ancient Times to 1600. Using artifacts dated beyond 1600 will result in a loss of 25 points per artifact. Assignment Instructions Write a 2–3 page report, 500–750 words that describes your experience. Select a minimum of 5–10 works of art by 5–10 different artists, from different time periods discussed in the text (Ancient Times to 1600). Do not use power point slides, Clearly identify the location of the museum and your initial reaction when exploring the artwork in the online museum or gallery. Provide a description and summary of at least 5–10 works of art by 5–10 different artists. Include an image or screenshot of each piece. Explain your initial reaction to the artwork you selected and explain why you chose each piece. Describe the role of museum founder and curator. Use the class text as a reference (additional sources are fine, but not necessary unless required by your content). Your report should include connections you make between things observed in your activity and things learned in the course and text. Note The roles of museum founder and curator are held by you. Is the medium the message? How do new media alter the relations between a product and its consumers or audience when it is remediated through new media technologies? Draw on three different works of popular culture that have undergone remediation, or look at one work that has gone through three forms of remediation. How has each remediation changed its content or its relationship to different audiences? What remains the same? Does remediation lead to a profoundly different set of relationships between culture, consumers, and industry?

Instructions What do you think of the belief that Islam is meant to be a universal religion and that it corrects the mistakes of Judaism and Christianity? Background information: The Quran purports to be the final and most perfect revelation from God. As such, the religion that it expounds, Islam, is meant to be a universal religion, correcting the mistakes and misunderstandings of Judaism and Christianity. Traditionally, the understanding is that while the original teachings of Judaism and Christianity were correct, their adherents misunderstood Allah’s messengers and practiced the intended religion (Islam) incorrectly. So, the messages in the Quran were sent to get everyone back on the correct path. I’m not saying anyone is right or wrong, but Muslim tradition states that the Quran is the perfect and final revelation from Allah (God). It is the continuation and correction of revelations that are recorded in The Hebrew Bible and in the New Testament.

The language and rhetoric used in the reporting of terrorist events, whether from official sources or from media outlets, can be used to influence public opinion and behavior. How does government communication about crises influence the messaging that the terrorists were intending to deliver? Are there ethical issues associated with how government officials and media outlets report on terrorism and terrorist activities? Assignment: For this assignment, you will analyze the effects and impacts of the reporting of a terrorist event. Choose a recent terrorist event (within the past five years), but a different one than you analyzed in Week One. Conduct library research to report on how the event was understood and interpreted by the public. Focus on reports from both government sources and media outlets. Did you observe differences in the ways the event was interpreted by different segments of the public? For example, was the event uniformly seen as “terrorism” by the public? Or did different groups interpret the event differently? Provide specific examples from your research, and discuss some of the ethical issues faced by those reporting on the event. Your thesis and conclusion should address how you think terrorist event reporting can be managed to best serve the public. Also make sure to address the general public’s role in interpreting and disseminating perspectives on terrorist events. For this wrap-up we’re going to do a close-listening to a piece of music and consider how it responds to broader themes in our course. Use Leigh Raiford’s essay, (The attached reading) answer the questions, below.
