[ORDER SOLUTION] The Gaming World

This Research Paper (Assignment 4) is very standard in format. It will be an 8-10 page paper using 5 sources. Sources should (but do not HAVE to) come from the HACC Library, either books/materials from one of the physical library buildings on campus or journal articles and other sources from the Library’s electronic databases.  Again, many of you will find the database Academic Search Complete extremely useful for your project (see 6.6 for info on how to access ASC).  The previous Unit of work will have given you everything you need to begin this research process, but HACC’s wonderful librarians and I will be delighted to offer help and support as you work. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. If you can’t at first find many sources using the HACC Library, I ask that you try again using different “keyword” searches in Academic Search Complete (see Unit 6).  If, after doing this, you still cannot find adequate sources, use the Library homepage to contact a Librarian and ask for help.  If, finally, you still cannot find the five sources in the HACC library, you may supplement one or two sources from other venues.  If you do this, you are responsible for evaluating the quality of the sources.  What are the credentials of the author?  What is the reputation of the publication in which the source appears? These are the sort of questions you will need to ask of each source before using them in your essay.  Your Research Paper will be argument-driven (just as Assignment 3 was), and will focus on an event/issue in the headlines during the month and year you were born. You can focus on the event in a purely isolated or historical way, or tie it in with contemporary events by showing how an issue has developed over time or an event played out in the following decades You must offer an in-text citation whenever you: i) Quote directly from a secondary source ii) Paraphrase a secondary source iii) Use specific pieces of information (statistics, data, etc.) found in a secondary source Please use MLA format.  My topic is on the “Sega Dreamcast”, the gaming console that came out in September, 1999.  Please also include a thesis in the writing, and be sure to briefly answer your question right away.  That answer will become your thesis.  How did the Dreamcast shape the gaming world?  What is its legacy?

Read the documents on pages 147-152 in your Sources of World Societies book. Here we have two European accounts of two South and Central American cultures, the Inca and the Aztecs (Mexica). To whom would this information be useful, and why?Diego Durán gives us a sense of the importance that religious customs held for the Aztecs (aka Mexica). Durán, a priest, was also a man of faith, but of the Catholic persuasion. Think about the details he imparts in this account.Based on his examination of the Aztec religion, where do you think Durán saw possible ways to convert the Aztecs to Catholicism – what aspects of this European religion might appeal to the Aztecs?Relatedly, how might European intervention in Aztec religious practices fundamentally change Aztec religion and culture?Be sure to provide quotes and examples from the text, with proper citation, to support your analysis. [ORDER SOLUTION] Game Design

Please watch the following video: https://www.ted.com/talks/brenda_laurel_why_not_make_video_games_for_girls Why Not Make Video Games For Girls? While the video that you just watched offers an interesting perspective (though slightly dated) on gender and the gaming industry, it has also received a fair amount of critique. In order to develop a well-rounded understanding on the topic of gender and the gaming industry, please read the following article critiquing the TED Talk that you just viewed: Girl Games: Adventures in Lip Gloss https://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3252/girl_games_adventures_in_lip_gloss.php You are also encouraged to explore the other critiques out there regarding this TED Talk. Try using search terms like “critiques of Purple Moon and Rockett” to further explore this topic. Now that you’ve had an opportunity to explore various perspectives on the topic of gender and the gaming industry, specifically in terms of the Purple Moon company, respond to the following questions. Compare and contrast your initial reactions to the TED Talk and the “Girl Games: Adventures in Lip Gloss” article. Did the article change your opinion of the TED Talk? How so? After learning a little about the gender research that Laurel performed before creating her games, do you think she asked the right questions? Did she use the feedback she received in a productive way? If you were doing research to figure out what a certain demographic (doesn’t have to be gender-based) was looking for in a video game, how would you structure your research differently? A quote from the article regarding Laurel’s research says: “This is just another example of the tawdry history of sex difference research that is driven by stereotypes and results in reinforcing those stereotypes,” says Dr. Barrie Thorne, Professor of Sociology at U.C. Berkeley and author of the definitive text Gender Play. Do you agree with this point of view? What issues do you see with the Rockett game and Laurel’s research? The way that we view and understand gender identity and gender expression has changed significantly since the TED Talk was filmed. Do you think that gender is as strong a demographic in gaming today? If so, why? If not, what are the audience categories that video game designers should be taking into consideration instead? Does your personal concept of gender (or how you view/understand gender) impact the kinds of video games that you choose? Are you more or less likely to choose a game that offers a diverse and/or broad concept of gender? Explain. Ultimately, Laurel’s company, Purple Moon, was bought out by Mattel, a company best-known for their Barbie products. What do you think that Laurel and Purple Moon could have done differently to (potentially) avoid being bought out? Explain.
