Physiological Effects

Nutrition plays a vital role in a person’s overall health and well-being. Not getting enough of the recommended nutrients over the long-term can lead to malnutrition which often results in disease and illness. In a 3-page paper, written in APA format using proper spelling/grammar, address the following: Define malnutrition and identify a specific disease that can result from it. Perform library research about the selected disease, and explain its physiological effects on a person’s body.  Describe the relationship between specific foods/nutrients and the disease. Use the questions below to guide your response. Does research indicate that a lack of specific foods/nutrients increase a person’s chance of contracting the disease? Are there specific foods/nutrients that should be avoided by an individual afflicted with the disease? How do specific foods/nutrients work physiologically within the body to help combat the disease? Evaluate nutritional recommendations to help combat the disease. Cite at least 3 credible references and present the resources in APA format on the References page. For information about the impact of diseases on body systems and assessing the credibility of resources, consult the resources below.

Evaluation Research

Imagine that for your research proposal about why students chose Springfield College, someone asks the question “Is this evaluation research?” Your quick response is yes. Your assignment is to defend this position about your proposal being evaluation research. Out of the three topics appropriate for evaluation research, describe which one is the most relevant to your research question, and how it could be turned into/defended as evaluation research (Hints: what is the value of the information you collect from students? What if the data is collected over time? What could we do with it then? Is there a value in that? Who wants to know what information you collect? What could be done with the data? To whom is that data potentially important? Is there a problem that the data can potentially help address? As always 1-2 pg max, double spaced. There is no research paper on Springfield College. This is just a hypothetical paper.

Native Populations

I need a scholarly article discussing the native populations in/around the Amur river basin and today’s Sino-Russian Border in the East. 1st Reference to consult is “Beyond the Steppe Frontier: A history of the Sino-Russian Border” by Soren Urbansky.  How were the populations integrated into the national identities and societies we see today.  How did the Russian cossacks interact with these populations during Russian expansion?  How did the Chinese/Qing interact with these populations historically before the arrival of the Russians?  How did the Russians see these populations following establishing borders with the Qing? Feel free to organize it how you see fit. Ultimately I’m interested in a paper discussing  1- The living situation of these groups, and their cultural ethnic identities. 2- How the Qing treated them prior to the arrival of the Russians 2- How Russian Imperialism sought to integrate, employ, or displace them into the empire during the expansion period. 3- How Sino-Russian wars resulting in the treaty of Nerchinksk and Peking altered the border and affected the populations therein.  4- What is the demographic makeup of The Primorsky Krai and Khabarovsk Krai today? What happened to those populations?

Visual Design Elements

No sources needed, may consult sites to gather information but put into your own words. The building structure name is: Dome of the Rock it is located in Jerusalem, Israel. Attached is the an image of the building, which is what this paper will be about. The following is an outline of the paper: PART 1: Write a one-page biography of both artists that built the structure. The biography should stress more than just dates and facts: focus on what’s interesting about their career, why the artist is important, their originality, what they’re famous for, etc.  PART 2: Visual Analysis   Analyze the visual forms emphasized in your work, including the use of line and contour, texture, color, scale and other visual design elements, as suggested by your answers to the following questions.  1)  What is visually most distinctive/special about the work? Which elements are most emphasized: lines/outlines; space/depth; light and shadow; textures; color? 2)  Is line important? outlines? inner lines? detail? What kinds of lines? 3)  What colors are emphasized? What is the effect of the colors chosen? How are colors combined — to harmonize or to create strong contrasts? Do the kinds of colors used draw your attention to a certain focus in the picture? (If the work is black and white, where are the darkest darks [values] used and where are the lighter shades [values]?) 4)   What is the approximate size (scale) of the piece? Is the work monumental, or is it small-scaled & intimate? How would it be different if it were smaller, or larger? Why do you think the artist choose that size for this work? What is the effect of the scale chosen? 5)  Is texture important – either represented texture (in painting) or actual surface textures (in painting or sculpture)? If yes, how are textures shown? Why are they important? What do they add to the image? For sculpture, are actual textures emphasized? Analyze surfaces. 6)  What kind of space is used/shown? Shallow space, medium space, or deep space? Why do you think the artist chose this kind of space? 7)  How are lighting and shadows used? Are shadows prominent, dominant? Or is lighting emphasized more than shadow? Or are both subdued, and why? 8)  Is there a focal point in the work? If so, how does the artist lead your eye to that point of emphasis? If there’s no one focus, there multiple points of focus? Why would there not be a single focal point?                         9)  Is there a story? If so, what is it? How is the story told visually?  10)  What is the emotional expression of the work? How does it feel? Its mood? The emotions of individual figures? What does the work “mean” to you? PART 3: Your Response Why did you choose this work? What about it appealed to you? Do you like it better now that you’ve learned about the artist/time period and you’ve systematically analyzed the work? How did your research and analysis inform your view of the work?

Universal Religion

Instructions What do you think of the belief that Islam is meant to be a universal religion and that it corrects the mistakes of Judaism and Christianity? Background information: The Quran purports to be the final and most perfect revelation from God. As such, the religion that it expounds, Islam, is meant to be a universal religion, correcting the mistakes and misunderstandings of Judaism and Christianity. Traditionally, the understanding is that while the original teachings of Judaism and Christianity were correct, their adherents misunderstood Allah’s messengers and practiced the intended religion (Islam) incorrectly. So, the messages in the Quran were sent to get everyone back on the correct path. I’m not saying anyone is right or wrong, but Muslim tradition states that the Quran is the perfect and final revelation from Allah (God). It is the continuation and correction of revelations that are recorded in The Hebrew Bible and in the New Testament.

The Journey to Sustainability [WLO: 4] [CLOs: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] Prior to beginning work on this final paper, review all chapters of Bensel and Carbone’s Sustaining Our Planet text (2020). In this paper, you will explore what a future sustainable world might look like, and in the process of doing so, extend your previous descriptions of selected terms and explain how they may play a role in aiding us in achieving environmental sustainability on a global scale. TERMS THAT MUST BE INCORPORATED: wind turbines, agricultural robots coral bleaching The Journey to Sustainability Imagine a future (probably a long time from now) in which human beings have achieved environmental sustainability on a global scale. That means that we as a species have figured out how to maintain a lifestyle that can go on indefinitely. Humans will exist in harmony with their environment, not needing more resources than can naturally be replenished. What would such a world be like? How might we get there from here? In this final assignment, you will play the part of science-fiction writer, imagining and describing what a sustainable Earth, inhabited by humans, might look like in the distant future. You will need to provide examples throughout to support your descriptions. You should include all the terms that you have researched during Weeks 1 through 4 of this class, underlining each term as you include it. Be sure to expand on your terms and include other concepts that you learned in the course. Provide as detailed a picture as possible of how that future world might function on a day-to-day basis. In your paper, use grammar and spell-checking programs to insure clarity. Proofread carefully prior to submitting your work. Finally, you will submit the document to Waypoint. Your paper will consist of seven paragraphs using the format below to address the elements with the assumption that environmental sustainability has been achieved: Paragraph 1: Describe how the human relationship to nature will be different from what it is at present. Examine how humans will cope differently with the ways that natural phenomena like hurricanes affect lives. Paragraph 2: Describe what Earth’s biodiversity and ecosystems will look like in a sustainable future. Explain what humans have done differently to enable biodiversity and ecosystems to function sustainably. Paragraph 3: Examine how agricultural production will be different in a sustainable future. Paragraph 4: Differentiate between how humans will manage water resources (fresh water and ocean) in the sustainable future compared to how it is done now. Paragraph 5 Examine how humans will meet their energy needs in the future in a way that will enable maintenance of a sustainable, habitable atmosphere and climate. Indicate the changes that humans have made that are enabling them to maintain a healthy atmosphere and climate for all. Paragraph 6: Describe how waste management will be different in a sustainable future. Indicate the changes have been made to how humans think about and treat what is currently called “waste.” Paragraph 7: Summarize some of the major social, economic, political, and ecological choices and tradeoffs that will need to be overcome for this sustainable future to arrive. What are some of the major issues and challenges humans will have to face in order to achieve sustainability on a global scale? The Journey to Sustainability final paper Must be seven paragraphs in length (350 to 700 words) (not including title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA Style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center’s APA Style (Links to an external site.) Must incorporate all four of your previously selected terms. Must utilize academic voice. See the Academic Voice (Links to an external site.) resource for additional guidance. Critical Black Memory

Use Leigh Raiford’s essay, (The attached reading) answer the questions, below. This essay is fairly long and a bit theoretical, I suggest that you first skim/spot read the first sections in order to get a sense of her aims, as well as the history of lynching images; then, focus your reading on sections III (3) – V (5). Your answers to the prompts should be 1-2 pages, single-spaced. Raiford writes of photography in relation to “the burden of memory” as well as “critical black memory.”  What does she mean by the latter?  Does Raiford believe that Emory Douglas, and/or Kerry James Marshall, and/or Ken Gonzales-Day provide examples of critical black memory? Explain, referring to their works as well as her argument about them.  Length: 1-2 pages, single-spaced.
