REPLY1 150 WORDS CITATION AND REFERENCES Pneumonia is a respiratory infection. This infection causes inflammation of the alveoli which can result in the air sacs filling with pus or fluid. Pneumonia can be fatal to individuals older than 65 years and children and infants. Pneumonia has the potential to adversely affect an individuals life, and, therefore, prevention against the disease is the best protection. Some forms of pneumonia can result from influenza. Flu vaccines are one step that can be taken to prevent infection. Pletz et al. (2016) state that there are vaccines for some forms of pneumonia as well. An individual can use a variety of health promotion techniques to prevent pneumonia. For instance, handwashing is a critical step in preventing the spread of community-acquired pneumonia. Pathogens are removed from hands and this helps keep the individual and community safe. Ceasing smoking habits is a key health promotion tool. Smokers are highly susceptible to pneumonia infection, according to Baskaran et al. (2019). Weakened lung function as a result of smoking is worsened when an infected with pneumonia. Therefore, when a smoker stops the habit, he or she lowers the risk of getting infected. Establishing good health habits in ones life can play a significant role in keeping pneumonia at bay. For instance, a healthy diet boosts an individuals immunity, and, therefore, improves his or her chances of fighting off the infection with the help of prescribed medication. Other habits such as rest and adequate physical activity enable an individual to maintain optimum respiratory health. Regular check-ups with a physician are also a good way of finding out if an individuals current health situation leaves him or her susceptible to getting an infection. A gradual build-up of fatty streaks (plaque) form in the coronary arteries, which often leads to heart blockage, form a plaque in the arteries that feed the oxygenated blood to the heart muscle. The build-up of fatty streaks makes the coronary arteries narrow and stiffen over time (Heart Foundation NZ. 2020). As the coronary arteries narrow, it becomes more difficult for oxygenated blood to reach the heart muscle. If treatment is not initiated, then a heart attack occurs. The plaque breaks away and forms a clot that interrupts blood flow, which supplies blood to the heart. A heart attack, also called a myocardial infarction, can be fatal, but with treatment, exercise, and fat-free food can reduce the effect and improve dramatically over the year. The patient is encouraged to follow these steps necessary for health prevention and promotion of heart attack (Heart Disease Prevention | MedlinePlus, 2019) High blood pressure (BP) is a significant risk factor for heart disease. Few steps to control blood pressure are monitoring BP daily, including lifestyle changes, preventing or controlling high blood pressure. Keeping cholesterol and triglyceride levels under control by eating less fat, exercising and taking any prescribed medication to reduce the level Have enough sleep. Not getting enough sleep will raise the risk of high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes. Those three things are a significant risk for heart disease. Most adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep per nigh. Extreme stress causes heart attack and not coping with stress leads to heart disease. Avoid or quit smoking. Cigarette smoking can raise blood pressure and a higher risk for stroke and heart attack. Regular exercise. Exercise has many benefits, including strengthening the heart and improving circulation. It can also help maintain a healthy weight, lower cholesterol, and blood pressure. All of these can lower the risk of heart disease. Limit alcohol. Drinking too much alcohol can raise blood pressure. It also adds extra calories, which may cause weight gain. Both are risk of heart disease References Heart Disease Prevention | MedlinePlus. (2019). Scenario: You work for the local public health department in the Immunization Registry and Vaccine for Children (VFC) division. Your job is to interface with local pediatricians and primary care physicians, making sure immunizations are being properly reported and the providers that participate in the VFC immunization program are properly documenting vaccine use and patient information. You have been briefed by the chief epidemiologist who states that a growing public complacency about the need for childhood immunizations has resulted in record low levels of registry immunizations against preventable diseases. You must put together a plan to educate the physicians of this potentially serious risk to the community and make them aware of the growing population of unimmunized and under-immunized children and what they may do to help correct this concern. Respond to the following: How will you approach the physician community and get their buy-in to increase immunization efforts with their patient populations? What benefits does an up-to-date immunization registry provide to (1) parents, (2) immunization providers, and (3) the public What educational materials, services, programs, or support can local, state, and federal public health agencies offer to the providers and the community for improving registry statistics? [SOLVED] Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder What sort of problems
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder What sort of problems would you expect Scott to have at school? ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorder in children and can affect their social interaction, well-being and academics. Its symptoms are hyperactivity, lack of attention, and impulsivity. The cause for ADHD is not known but genetics plays a huge role. Some problems that I would expect Scott to have in school would be forgetfulness, inability to sit through class, poor focus, and a disruptive behavior. A task might be given to him and in a few moments, he acts like he doesnt remember what task it was or do not even pay attention to what the person might be saying. He could also be experiencing an outburst of energy and finds it hard to stay still, interrupting his classmate, teacher or class activities. What are some teachings you might provide for this parent? Some teaching that might help would be creating a schedule that the child has to follow every day, with time it would become a routine; and implement transition into things that needs to be done like giving a reminder few minutes prior to when a task is to be done. Since ADHD could have an overstimulating effect, it would help to limit choice. For example, choosing between two things rather than three things. Breaking down complicated task into simpler ones would help a lot as well as taking little breaks between them. Create goal and reward them as they complete each task. Take away privileges and use time outs to discipline inappropriate behaviors. What interventions would give Scott the best chance of having positive outcomes? A combination of medication and therapy would help Scott a lot and result in a positive outcome. Medication like Ritalin will help normalize the brains activity associated with ADHD and its daily symptoms when given at schedule times throughout the day. This medication must be prescribed by a physician. The medications used to treat ADHD are known as Psycho-stimulants and are shown to be very effective. Psycho-stimulant drugs could be a stimulant or a non-stimulant medication depending on the need of the child. The family therapy would help with his behavior and thoughts. The therapy would help to develop coping mechanism as well as incorporate a structure in the family for managing his behavior. Both behavior therapy and FDA-approved medications have been demonstrated to reduce behaviors associated with ADHD and improve function (Wolraich et al., 2011).
