2-1 Discussion: Applications of the Normal Distribution

I’m trying to study for my Statistics course and I need some help to understand this question.

Flip a coin 10 times and record the observed number of heads and tails. For example, with 10 flips one might get 6 heads and 4 tails. Now, flip the coin another 20 times (so 30 times in total) and again, record the observed number of heads and tails. Finally, flip the coin another 70 times (so 100 times in total) and record your results again.

We would expect that the distribution of heads and tails to be 50/50. How far away from 50/50 are you for each of your three samples? Reflect upon why might this happen?

ENG101 English101

I’m studying for my English class and need an explanation.

Reflect on the work completed in this course and answer the following questions:

  • What were the biggest challenges you faced during the workshop process?
  • What were your greatest successes?
  • What do you still feel you need to work on as you work towards completing the final project in the course?
  • Identify one strategy you learned from the course readings that can help you improve your writing technique or writing style choices for the final project

Showing that you know and understand counterarguments to your position on a topic strengthens your argument in the eyes of your reader. It demonstrates that you have done your homework and considered all sides of an issue before establishing a position and offering a solution.

Guidelines

Imagine that you have been asked to present your argument at a conference on your paper’s chosen topic. Then, imagine a few scholars in the field who disagree with your claim are present in the audience. Additionally, during a question and answer session during the conference, consider two scholars countering your paper’s position. Let your readers know what their arguments are and work to convince the audience that your position is the stronger one or that your solution is the better one. Both sides will have merit, but help your audience understand why your claim is the more logical and reasonable one.

  1. Create a PowerPoint presentation containing at least 6 slides that uses words,and images.
  2. Develop two of the strongest scholarly counterarguments against your paper’s claim (2 slides for each argument).
  3. Convince the audience that their claims are weak, based on the research you conducted (2 slides). Do not demean the opposition, call them names, or directly attack their positions. If your argument is truly the stronger one, it should stand up against fairly presented academic research.

Trigonometry

I’m studying for my Trigonometry class and need an explanation.

where A is the area, b is the length of the triangle’s base, and h is the height of the triangle drawn perpendicular to that base.

image1.jpg

This area formula works fine if you can get the measure of the base and the height, and if you can be sure that you’ve measured a height that’s perpendicular to the side of the triangle. But what if you have a triangular yard — a big triangular yard — and have no way of measuring some perpendicular segment to one of the sides?

One alternative is to use Heron’s Formula, which uses the measures of all three sides. The other alternative, of course, is to use trigonometry — or, at least, a formula with an angle measure in it.

To measure that angle, you can be very sophisticated and get a surveying apparatus, or if you’ve got a protractor handy, you can do a decent estimate by extending the sides at an angle for a bit and eyeballing the angle size.

The trig formula for finding the area of a triangle is;

image2.jpg

where a and b are two sides of the triangle and theta is the angle formed between those two sides. You don’t need the measure of the third side at all, and you certainly don’t need a perpendicular side.

Take a look at the triangle shown, with sides a and b and the angle between them.

image3.jpg

Start with the traditional formula for the area of this triangle,

image4.jpg

Then look at the smaller triangle to the left. (Because the height is drawn perpendicular to the base, the sides and height form a right triangle.) The acute angle has a sine equivalent to the following:

image5.jpg

If you solve that equation for h by multiplying each side by a, you get

image6.jpg

Replace the h in the traditional formula with its equivalent from the preceding equation, and you get

image7.jpg

Check out how this formula works in an actual problem. The triangle shows the measures of two of its sides and the angle between them.

image8.jpg

To find the area of the triangle:

  • Use the formula
  • image9.jpg
  • inserting the values that you know.
  • image10.jpg
  • Solve for the value of the area.
  • image11.jpg

Example:

BC = 12, AC = 7, m = 820

Find its area.

Express the area rounded to three decimal places.

x

Explanation:

A = 1/2 ab sin C

A = 1/2 X 12 X 7 sin 82°

A = 42(0.9903)

A = 41.6

Answer = 41.6

x

Practice Problem #1)

In ?PQR, PQ = 27, PR = 18, and m< P = 570

Find the area of ?PQR to the nearest tenth of a square unit.

x

Explanation #1

A = 1/2 ab sin P

A = 1/2 x 27 x 18 x sin 570

A = 243(0.8387)

A = 203.8

Answer = 203.8

x

Practice Problem #2)

In an isosceles?, the two equal sides each measure 22 meters, and they include an angle of 480. Find the area of the isosceles triangle, to the nearest square meter.

x

Explanation #2

A = 1/2 ab sin X

A = 1/2 x 22 x 22 x sin 480

A = 484 (0.7431)

A = 359.7

Answer = 359.7

Help with a paper in American History

Can you help me understand this History question?

Assignment 1: Different Approaches to Diversity Issues (1865-1925)

Due Week 3 and worth 120 points

In Assignment 1, we ask you to choose one of three topic choices listed below on the subject of diversity then use the Writing Guide located in Blackboard to write a brief paper on the subject. Each topic explores two different approaches to diversity during the 60-year period after the Civil War (1865 to 1925). The dynamic between the two approaches will have a profound impact on our history then and now.

As you prepare and brainstorm ideas for your paper, first read and review what our Schultz textbook covers on the subject. Then, consider the other sources listed with each topic below. It is important that you review these sources carefully because your paper should use a minimum of three sources from the list below.

Be sure to review the all help (documents or video) provided by your instructor. For information on the SWS format, see the “Strayer Writing Standards” tab on the course menu.

TOPIC CHOICE ONE: Empowering African Americans – Two Strategies

Here you will focus on the approaches of Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. Du Bois. Other noted names and certainly different organizations will become part of your inquiry. Washington’s famous 1895 “Atlanta Compromise” speech (labeled such later by critics) sets the tone. One might find virtues, problems and successes associated with both strategies. You might see elements of each in strategies of later leaders and related issues even today.

Sources: Schultz, p. 340-2, 400-1, 404-5. See http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/39/; and see http://historymatters.gmu.edu/d/40.

TOPIC CHOICE TWO: Getting Women the Vote – Two Strategies

Here you will focus on the approaches of two organizations and some names associated with each. These are the NAWSA (National American Woman Suffrage Association; later the League of Women Voters) and the NWP (National Women’s Party). You will identify the strategic approach and key players in each as they pursued the common goal of getting women the right to vote. One might find virtues, problems and successes associated with both strategies. You might see elements of each in strategies of later leaders and related issues even today.

Sources: Schultz, p. 364-366. Also see https://www.womenshistory.org/education-resources/biographies/carrie-chapman-catt on one of the leaders of the NAWSA; on the NWP’s Alice Paul, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GDe4DkZN2A; and https://americanhistory.si.edu/blog/2012/05/alice-paul-champion-of-woman-suffrage.html.

TOPIC CHOICE THREE: Immigration – Two Opposing Approaches and Views

Here you will focus on two opposing views of immigration and its impact on American culture and life. These are visible in the late 1800s and early 1900s, in a time where immigration was skyrocketing for a long period; but significant restrictions would come into play. One view is represented by lines of a famous poem on the base of the Statue of Liberty. The other finds its place in laws restricting immigration. One might find virtues, problems and successes associated with one or both strategies. You might see elements of each in strategies of later leaders and related issues even today.

Sources: Schultz, p. 334-5, 348-9, 358-9, 408-9. Look for events and issues like the opening of Ellis Island, the melting pot idea, the Chinese Exclusion Act, and the National Origins Act. Also see the poem on the Statue of Liberty base: https://www.nps.gov/stli/learn/historyculture/colossus.htm. And see http://college.cengage.com/history/wadsworth_9781133309888/unprotected/ps/chinese_exclusion_act.htm.

Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:

  • Use the Strayer Writing Standards (SWS). The format is different than other formats like APA. Please take a moment to review the SWS documentation for details.
  • Be typed, double spaced between lines, using Times New Roman font, Calibri, Arial, or Courier (size 10, 11, or 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and sources must follow SWS format. You must have a Sources list at the end; each source listed must also be cited in the body of the paper with an in-text citation.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the Sources page are not included in the required assignment page length.
  • The body of the paper should be five paragraphs and a total of 500-to-800 words in length. The 500 minimum is firm; you really have not adequately developed the paper if less than that. The 800 maximum is a loose guideline. The body of the paper is to be double-spaced. Typically, if you follow these instructions, the body of your paper will be 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 pages in length; add a page for your title page and another for your sources list and that then gets to 4-1/2-to 5-1/2. But the length requirement is evaluated by word count.

The paper must be submitted (uploaded and attached) in the course shell provided online.

The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:

  • Discuss the developments, racial and political policies, and laws from 1865 to the 1920s following the end of slavery.

Walden-Nurs 6050- Week 8

I’m studying for my Nursing class and need an explanation.

Discussion 2: The Role of the RN/APRN in Policy-Making

Word cloud generators have become popular tools for meetings and team-building events. Groups or teams are asked to use these applications to input words they feel best describe their team or their role. A “word cloud” is generated by the application that makes prominent the most-used terms, offering an image of the common thinking among participants of that role.

What types of words would you use to build a nursing word cloud? Empathetic, organized, hard-working, or advocate would all certainly apply. Would you add policy-maker to your list? Do you think it would be a very prominent component of the word cloud?

Nursing has become one of the largest professions in the world, and as such, nurses have the potential to influence policy and politics on a global scale. When nurses influence the politics that improve the delivery of healthcare, they are ultimately advocating for their patients. Hence, policy-making has become an increasingly popular term among nurses as they recognize a moral and professional obligation to be engaged in healthcare legislation.

To Prepare:

  • Revisit the Congress.gov website provided in the Resources and consider the role of RNs and APRNs in policy-making.
  • Reflect on potential opportunities that may exist for RNs and APRNs to participate in the policy-making process.

Post an explanation of at least two opportunities that exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy-making. Explain some of the challenges that these opportunities may present and describe how you might overcome these challenges. Finally, recommend two strategies you might make to better advocate for or communicate the existence of these opportunities to participate in policy-making. Be specific and provide examples.

Compose an essay in which you compare and contrast the rights found in the documents and make a case for the three rights, that are found in all three documents, that you consider most important.

I’m studying for my Sociology class and don’t understand how to answer this. Can you help me study?

The Necessity of Rights

Learning Objective: Through intensive thinking analysis of selected Amendments to the U.S. Constitution, we learn that a republic cannot exist without the protection and promotion of rights.

Analyze these three documents: The U.S. Constitution (1787), France’s Declarations of Man and Citizen (1789), and the United Nation’s The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948). Consider the rights that are common to all three documents. Notice that not all rights appear in all three papers. Compose an essay in which you compare and contrast the rights found in the documents and make a case for the three rights, that are found in all three documents, that you consider most important.
