ANCOVA in SPSS and MANOVA in spss
Need help with my Psychology question – Im studying for my class.
Assignment 1: ANCOVA in SPSS
Earlier this week, you practiced using ANCOVA models with SPSS and, ideally, used the Collaboration Lab to ask, answer, and otherwise address any questions you had. In this Assignment, you apply what you learned to answer a social research question using ANCOVA. Hopefully you are not yet tired of comparing means!
To prepare
- Review the datasets provided.
- Construct a research question based on one of those datasets.
- Pay attention to the assumptions of this test, and ask, Does it make sense to interpret the mean of this dependent variable?
The Assignment
Use SPSS to answer the research question you constructed. Then, compose a 1- to 2-paragraph analysis in APA format in which you answer the following questions:
- What is the null hypothesis for your question?
- What research design(s) would align with this question?
- What dependent variable was used and how is it measured?
- What independent variable is used and how is it measured?
- What is your covariate?
- What is the answer to your research question?
- What are the possible implications of social change?
Be sure to include your data output with your analysis. See pages 713 and 714 in your Warner textbook for an excellent APA-compliant write-up of an ANCOVA.
Part 2
Article Critique
The practice of quantitative research not only involves statistical calculations and formulas but also involves the understanding of statistical techniques related to real-world applications. You might not become a quantitative researcher nor use statistical methods in your profession but as a consumer, citizen, and scholar-practitioner, it will be important for you to become a critical consumer of research, which will empower you to read, interpret, and evaluate the strength of claims made in scholarly material and daily news.
For this Assignment, you will critically evaluate a scholarly article related to ANCOVA.
To prepare
- Review the Article Critique Assignment Guide in the Walden Library, listed in the Week 2 Learning Resources.
- Search the Walden Library for a quantitative article that applies ANCOVA.
The Assignment
Write a 2- to 3-page critique of the research you found in the Walden Library that includes responses to the following prompts:
- Why did the authors select ANCOVA in the research?
- Do you think this test was the most appropriate choice? Why or why not?
- Did the authors display the results in a figure or table?
- Does the results table stand alone? In other words, are you able to interpret the study from it? Why or why not?

- What is the null hypothesis for your question?
- What research design(s) would align with this question?
- What dependent variable was used and how is it measured?
- What independent variable is used and how is it measured?
- If you found significance, what is the strength of the effect?
- What is the answer to your research question?
- What are the possible implications of social change?
Be sure to include your data output with your analysis. See pages 819 through 823 in your Warner textbook for an excellent APA-compliant write-up of a 6X3 MANOVA.

Basic Instructions on How to Write a Summary
A summary is produced to show your Professor that you have watched the Weight of the Nation documentary and understood it.
1. Watch the video and be sure you understand it before writing the summary.
2. Outline the video major points as you watch it.
3. Write a first draft of the summary after you watched the video (not while watching it).
4. Always use paraphrase when writing a summary. If you do copy a phrase from the original be sure it is a very important phrase that is necessary and cannot be paraphrased. In this case put “quotation marks” around the phrase.
5. Start your summary with a clear identification of the type of work, title, author, and main point in the present tense. Example: In the feature Video “Weight of the Nation Part ___”, the author, _____, explains that _______________.
6. Check with your outline and your summary draft to make sure you have covered the important points. You will need to include only the main idea and supporting facts. You can include some other things, but do not re-write the whole story.
7. A Summary do not includes your own ideas, opinions, or interpretations, be very careful of your word choice and refer to the video main points and the authors statements.
8. Write using “summarizing language.” Periodically remind your reader that this is a summary by using phrases such as the documentary claims, the author suggests, etc.
8. Proof read and spell-check the summary draft before submission.
9. Follow the instructions given regarding the length of your writing.

Can you help me understand this Article Writing question?
Class participation (i.e. discussion board posts) is an irreplaceable part of the learning process in this course. You will be evaluated on the QUALITY of your contributions and insights. A quality comment possesses one or more of the following properties:
Offers a different and unique, but relevant, perspective
Contributes to moving the discussion and analysis forward
Builds on other comments
Includes evidence, argumentation, or reflective thinking while moving beyond opinion or value judgment.
Note: While points allocated will not be based on length or number of words, it will be exceedingly difficult to achieve the above benchmarks in one or two sentences.
Film Writing: Best Practices
As this course is mainly engaged with film, you will be required to use time markers for each in-text citation: (Title of the Film Hour:Min:Sec) eg. (Batman 01:23:15). Because you will need to reference a fair amount of evidence in your analysis and writing (direct quotes, scenes from the films, articles, etc.), I highly suggest that you watch the film with subtitles on so you are able to write down the exact quote. You are expected to read and watch the entirety of whatever is assigned. If you take notes as you read, you will be much more prepared for the written assignments. Also, remember to save all of your work often and in multiple locations.
