In chapter 6 of your textbook we learn about language development during the first two years.
- According to the nativist perspective, infants are born with special language systems which enable them to easily acquire language, through a language acquisition device (LAD). Studies of the Wild Boy of Aveyron support the idea that we must learn language during a critical period of our development. Learning theorists, however, believe that children learn language from the stimuli they are exposed to in their environment.
- Conduct your own research on these 2 perspectives. After reflecting on your research and your own observations, in a 1-2 page paper, discuss your thoughts. Which theory do you find more credible? Explain your opinion using examples and findings from your research.
Assignment Grading Criteria | Maximum Points |

write an essay
Im working on a Writing question and need guidance to help me study.
1.Three different pictures are posted for the essay. You can select either one as the topic of your essay.
2.The description essay will include things such as the time period, the weather, the kinds of houses and buildings around, the behavior of the people, and anything else you want to include to portray what you would see if you were there. It’s ok to use bits and pieces about what you see in the image, but the focus is description of the entire picture. A sample sentence could be, “While the main image in the picture is very clear, the smaller, background items are necessary to portray the message of the entire picture.”
3. Focus on the picture itself, but it is also good if you can use your imagination to describe what you think is going on based on the way you see the picture. Look beyond the images themselves and think about what could have caused this to happen, where it is happening, who is involved, a possible solution, an intended meaning or message, etc. The more creative, the better, but don’t forget to describe the picture as the major part of the essay.
4. Remember that the length of the essay is 500 words, written according to MLA format, and contains NO PERSONAL PRONOUNS. Use your textbook and writing handbook to understand the way to write without using personal pronouns. Also, use a real title and not just Descriptive Essay. For example, use something like Fire on the Way.

A sinking situation by Clare Bartlett
Roscoe is the head of engineering at a systems engineering company. His company has been contracted by a company, U-sub, to make firing assemblies for torpedoes. This contract calls for additional safety testing to ensure that the systems work properly.
The contract stipulated that it was the responsibility of Roscoes company to pay for this expensive additional testing. However, the CEO reminds Roscoe that their company is in financial trouble and asks Roscoe to skip the extra testing and falsify the paperwork by saying that the testing had occurred and that the systems passed. He then goes on to tell Roscoe that if he does not sign off on the testing, he will be fired.
Roscoe decides he cannot give in to his bosss demands and quits. However, he suspects that his former boss will promote someone else who will be willing to sign off on the testing.
Should Roscoe report the ethical violations of his former company?

Issues in Care for the Beginning of Life
Introduction The Churchs commitment to human dignity inspires an abiding concern for the sanctity of human life from its very beginning, and with the dignity of marriage and of the marriage act by which human life is transmitted. The Church cannot approve medical practices that undermine the biological, psychological, and moral bonds on which the strength of marriage and the family depends. Catholic health care ministry witnesses to the sanctity of life from the moment of conception until death.?20 The Churchs defense of life encompasses the unborn and the care of women and their children during and after pregnancy. The Churchs commitment to life is seen in its willingness to collaborate with others to alleviate the causes of the high infant mortality rate and to provide adequate health care to mothers and their children before and after birth. The Church has the deepest respect for the family, for the marriage covenant, and for the love that binds a married couple together. This includes respect for the marriage act by which husband and wife express their love and cooperate with God in the creation of a new human being. The Second Vatican Council affirms:
This love is an eminently human one. . . . It involves the good of the whole person. . . . The actions within marriage by which the couple are united intimately and chastely are noble and worthy ones. Expressed in a manner which is truly human, these actions signify and promote that mutual self-giving by which spouses enrich each other with a joyful and a thankful will.21 Marriage and conjugal love are by their nature ordained toward the begetting and educating of children. Children are really the supreme gift of marriage and contribute very substantially to the welfare of their parents. . . . Parents should regard as their proper mission the task of transmitting human life and educating those to whom it has been transmitted. . . . They are thereby cooperators with the love of God the Creator, and are, so to speak, the interpreters of that love.22
For legitimate reasons of responsible parenthood, married couples may limit the number of their children by natural means. The Church cannot approve contraceptive interventions that either in anticipation of the marital act, or in its accomplishment or in the development of its natural consequences, have the purpose, whether as an end or a means, to render procreation impossible.23 Such interventions violate the inseparable connection, willed by God . . . between the two meanings of the conjugal act: the unitive and procreative meaning.24 With the advance of the biological and medical sciences, society has at its disposal new technologies for responding to the problem of infertility. While we rejoice in the potential for

good inherent in many of these technologies, we cannot assume that what is technically possible is always morally right. Reproductive technologies that substitute for the marriage act are not consistent with human dignity. Just as the marriage act is joined naturally to procreation, so procreation is joined naturally to the marriage act. As Pope John XXIII observed:
The transmission of human life is entrusted by nature to a personal and conscious act and as such is subject to all the holy laws of God: the immutable and inviolable laws which must be recognized and observed. For this reason, one cannot use means and follow methods which could be licit in the transmission of the life of plants and animals.25 Because the moral law is rooted in the whole of human nature, human persons, through intelligent reflection on their own spiritual destiny, can discover and cooperate in the plan of the Creator.26

(II) Questions
A paper published in 2014 caused a stir when it speculated on the demise of many occupations accompanying technological developments such as AI within the next 10 to 20 years. At the same time, however, the birth of many new occupations is also being anticipated. Furthermore, the ways in which people work are already undergoing significant transformations in the present due to technological, environmental, and social developments, among other factors.
Please conceptualize an occupation to newly appear in society ten years from now and answer the following three questions about it. Answer all three questions within four pages.
1. Please describe in as much detail as possible, giving the title of the occupation, and details of the duties involved in this work that will be required in society ten years from now.
2. Please make some predictions about what society will be like ten years from now and justify why this occupation will be required. For this, select two themes from either a. Technology; b. Environment; c. Social conditions; d. Policy; or e. Other, and discuss together with supporting data the respective changes that are predicted over the next ten years for each. Please clarify the data sources.
3. Please create a recruitment advertisement for the occupation discussed in (1).
