Week 5 Assignment

I don’t know how to handle this Writing question and need guidance.

Assignment: Evaluating Significance of Findings

Part of your task as a scholar-practitioner is to act as a critical consumer of research and ask informed questions of published material. Sometimes, claims are made that do not match the results of the analysis. Unfortunately, this is why statistics is sometimes unfairly associated with telling lies. These misalignments might not be solely attributable to statistical nonsense, but also “user error.” One of the greatest areas of user error is within the practice of hypothesis testing and interpreting statistical significance. As you continue to consume research, be sure and read everything with a critical eye and call out statements that do not match the results.

For this Assignment, you will examine statistical significance and meaningfulness based on sample statements.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Review the Week 5 Scenarios found in this week’s Learning Resources and select two of the four scenarios for this Assignment.
  • For additional support, review the Skill Builder: Evaluating P Values and the Skill Builder: Statistical Power, which you can find by navigating back to your Blackboard Course Home Page. From there, locate the Skill Builder link in the left navigation pane.

For this Assignment:

Critically evaluate the two scenarios you selected based upon the following points:

  • Critically evaluate the sample size.
  • Critically evaluate the statements for meaningfulness.
  • Critically evaluate the statements for statistical significance.
  • Based on your evaluation, provide an explanation of the implications for social change.

Use proper APA format and citations, and referencing.

Write a memo based on the scenario.

I don’t understand this Law question and need help to study.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Assume that you are working at a small personal injury firm in Birmingham, Alabama as a solo attorney and a client named Jimmy Varney, who is an online college professor, walks into your office on June 28, 2017, and tells you the following story:

In May 2016, Mr. Varney traveled to New York to visit his father with his wife and daughter. While Mr. Varney checked his work emails in the family’s hotel room in a no-frills motel, his wife and daughter went down to the pool to waste some time before dinner. As his wife and daughter attempted to leave the pool area and head in the direction of the elevator, Mr. Varney’s daughter, who was five years old at the time, saw an elderly couple entering the pool area with a Boston Terrier dog wearing a red “service dog” vest. Because the Varney family owns a Boston Terrier and because his daughter had never seen a Boston Terrier “service dog,” Mr. Varney’s daughter bent down to pet the dog. At the same time, the dog’s owners tried to tell my daughter not to pet their dog because he was vicious. As Mr. Varney’s daughter leaned down, the dog took a bite of her face. The bite resulted in the need for plastic surgery and now is now deadly afraid of dogs. Mr. Varney later learned that the elderly couple never had the dog trained as a service dog. Instead, the elderly couple, who both suffer from recognized disabilities, purchased the red “service dog” vest from the internet. Mr. Varney asks if he can sue the hotel or the elderly couple for his daughter’s injuries.

The material above in italics are your notes of the story that Mr. Varney told you. For purposes of this assignment, assume that you are a member of the New York State Bar, but that you do a majority of your legal work in Alabama. Because you are not familiar with New York law on the various issues raised by this situation, you need to do some legal research on the legal issues raised by Jimmy Varney’s situation.

Using Nexis Uni, please locate any applicable New York law that may govern Mr. Varney’s situation. Specifically, please locate any applicable New York statutes as well as several New York cases that have interpreted the applicable New York statutes. After you conduct your research, please submit your findings in a memo of no more than 1000 words. Make sure that you address whether Mr. Varney could sue the elderly couple or the hotel and if he sues them what the likely defenses that each party may raise. Please also note any additional facts that you may need to research to assess the merits of Mr. Varney’s potential claims.

Two Assignment

Help me study for my Psychology class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.

Assignment 1: The Annotated Bibliography

Objective: Assess sources for your research for your final presentation (for credibility, reliability, and relevance) and list references in proper APA format

Assignment Instructions: The Research Project/Presentation for this class is divided into three major Assignments, 1) annotated bibliography, 2) outline and 3) final presentation. The first part is the annotated bibliography. An annotation is a summary and evaluation, and your annotated bibliography will include a summary and evaluation of some of the sources (or references) you will use for your presentation.

To prepare for this assignment, I recommend that you do the following:

  • Read these directions carefully.
  • Review the sample annotated bibliography provided to you below.
  • Read the grading criteria below. The grading criteria is a detailed evaluation that I will use to assess your performance. It will also help you understand what is expected of you as you prepare your assignment.
  • Message me with any questions!

The reason the annotated bibliography is included as part of the research project is that writing an annotated bibliography is important in that it provides excellent preparation for the final presentation. One of the issues regarding any type of research, especially in chemistry, is the credibility of the sources used, particularly those obtained from various websites. By forcing you to evaluate each of your potential sources carefully, the annotated bibliography helps you determine if in fact the source you chose is credible and helps you determine how relevant it is to your topic and understand the topic better which will help you develop your presentation.

For this project, you will assess three sources to include:

1) a complete citation for each source,

2) a summary of each source, and

3) an evaluation of each source.

Three sources are required for this assignment (i.e., you are to write an annotation for each source). However, you must use five or more sources in your final presentation.

Use this TEMPLATE to summarize and evaluate each of your three sources.

  1. Citation:

Written in APA reference list format. For more help with formatting, see APA handout.

  1. Summary:

What is the purpose of the source, review article, original research? What topics are covered? This section is generally 4-6 sentences that summarize the author’s main point. For more help, see this link on paraphrasing sources.

  1. Evaluation:

After summarizing the article (or research paper or book), it is necessary to evaluate it and state where you found it – its source (e.g., journal, website, etc.). Briefly answer the following questions in 4-6 sentences:

What is the format or type of source (e.g., peer-reviewed journal paper, website, book)? How reliable is the information in the article, and how credible is the source (e.g., website’s sponsoring organization, journal or book publisher) and the author(s)?

For more help, see this handout on evaluating resources.

Additional Resources:

  • Sample Annotated Bibliography
  • Also, please see the resources below at The Owl at Purdue site for more information on how to write an annotated bibliography as well as other pages on the site to assist you with the other parts of the research paper:

Assignment 2: The Outline

Objective: Organize your thoughts and the main points of your research for your final presentation

Assignment Instructions: To help you complete Assignment 3: The Presentation, you will first submit an outline to organize your thoughts and main points. Your outline should be formatted a specific way and must contain the following elements as described below.

To prepare for this assignment, I recommend that you do the following:

  • Read these directions carefully.
  • Review the sample outline provided to you below.
  • Read the grading criteria. The grading criteria is a detailed evaluation that I will use to assess your performance. It also will help you understand what is expected of you as you prepare your assignment.
  • Message me with any questions!

Be sure to add your name and course number to your outline.

The outline format: Your outline must be formatted as described and exemplified in the example attached. Please note that this format will be assessed in your grade:

  • Use an alphanumeric sequence
  • Sections should be indented and aligned
  • Follow the suggested order of the required elements
  • Use brief but detailed and descriptive phrases.

The required elements: Depending on the type of molecule/substance you have chosen you will address different sets of questions. Please see the category that responds to your selection. Your outline should contain the following elements in this order, and please note that some of these should be your personal observations. Also remember that your presentation (Assignment #3) should only be 10-15 slides, so you need to be concise and clear with your information.

Introduction

  1. Molecule/substance Introduction
    1. The common and IUPAC name of your molecule/substance. Please see this link to help with scientific names if needed: IUPAC Nomenclature Of Organic Chemistry: https://www.acdlabs.com/iupac/nomenclature/
    2. Where you can observe your molecule/substance in society and/or in nature.
    3. A brief discussion on why you chose your molecule/substance.
    4. If possible, a picture and/or video of you safely observing your molecule/substance in the field. If you cannot safely observe it, please include a couple of images from the internet.

Body

  1. Description
    1. You must include a physical description. You can use your personal observations from photographs. If you cannot safely observe your molecule/substance, you must research.
      • Physical Characteristics (appearance, texture, color, odor, melting point, boiling point, density, solubility, polarity, etc.)
    2. Chemical description: You will need to research the chemical properties of your compound/molecule)
      • Chemical Characteristics (stability in air or other environment, flammability, volatility, etc)
  2. Discovery
    1. a. Describe the initial discovery of your molecule. Who discovered the molecule, when, how, etc? Some compounds are part of a larger substance/plant. If this is the case, describe the isolation of your specific compound. The isolation refers to the initial time your molecule/substance was discovered from its raw materials, or isolated from its natural resources.
  3. Usage and Benefit or Harm to Society
    1. Where has your molecule/substance been used. Is it used regularly or is has it only been used on occasion? If your compound is one we ingest when eating, include information on foods it’s commonly found in.
    2. Write about the Benefit or Harm to Society Caused by your molecule/substance. Many compounds can be used as bioweapons or have both positive and negative impacts. Other compounds have had benefits as medicines or have caused harm as illicit narcotics. All of these are good ideas to start out thinking about, so I’d like you to discuss these impacts on society, the future, and in any way you can think they may be beneficial or harmful. Please see here for some hints on drug development.

Conclusion

  1. This section should contain four to six points that sum up the main points from the body of the outline.
  2. Start your conclusive section with one sentence summarizing some basic information about your chosen molecule/substance (common and IUPAC name and physical characteristics).
  3. Continue with a brief summary (1-2 sentences) about the isolation and synthesis of the molecule/substance.
  4. Include a brief summary (1-2 sentences) about the structure and function of your chosen molecule/substance.
  5. Wrap up the conclusive section with a closing note that provides brief information about a unique fact and/or behavior of your chosen.

The Reference Section

  1. This is not just the reference page; rather, referencing should occur throughout the outline as it will in your presentation. Therefore, your outline should include both a separate reference page containing a minimum of five sources listed in proper APA reference list format AND internal citations throughout the outline where appropriate. Please be sure to see the resources below for assistance regarding in-text citations and reference list formatting, and/or ask me if you have any additional questions.

Please make note of the following tips and tricks:

  • I understand that this is a rough draft and, as your research and writing continue over the next few weeks, details may be added or changed. Although you do not have to resubmit it to me, I recommend that you update this outline to help you best complete Assignments 3.
  • Write your outline so that it has detailed bullets that you can easily then flesh out into sentences for the narration of your presentation (Assignment 3).
  • After your outline is complete, I recommend that you next draft your introductory and conclusion sections for your outline. This will ensure that all the main points of the outline are incorporated in these two framing sections of your final presentation.
  • Please note that less than 10% of your outline or presentation (Assignment 3) should contain direct quotes.
  • All internal citation references should be listed on the reference page, and vice versa.

Fingerprinting

Can you help me understand this Powerpoint question?

In an indoor area, identify three different non-porous objects on which you can place and subsequently collect fingerprints. Using your index finger, wipe your finger along the edge of your nose, where the nose meets your cheek. The purpose is to obtain natural body oils on your finger from which you will make latent fingerprints on various objects. Then roll your finger on a non-porous object to create a latent impression. Repeat the process using two other people to create the impressions.

Using fingerprint powders and brushes develop each latent impression. Avoid using too much powder to make these impressions very dark. Use a very light, soft touch with little fingerprint powder and develop slowly, because latent fingerprints can be overdeveloped or destroyed with too much powder or pressure exerted by a brush.

Once the latent fingerprints are visible, photograph the impression and then try to collect each impression using the technique demonstrated in the classroom.

When you find the characteristics, upload the images of your fingerprints into a 10- to 12-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. Your presentation should cover the following areas:

  • Display the fingerprints you have developed.
  • Identify whether each print exhibits a loop, whorl, or arch.
  • Identify as many Galton features as you can, using proper terminology.
  • Describe the method you used to develop these prints.
  • Last, describe how investigators could use these developed prints to possibly identify a suspect

The Bargaining Mix, business negotiation

Need help with my Business question – I’m studying for my class.

The Bargaining Mix

Consider the following scenario and answer the questions (taken from Table 4.2) below.

You are a manager of a large retail outlet and have been employed with the organization for four years. The retail outlet employs approximately one hundred employees and has a number of management roles (Several Assistant Managers, several Managers, two Senior Manager, and a Director). For the last two years, you have been an Assistant Manager and have received what would be considered fair compensation for your role.

Over the last year, you have been asked to take on many of the responsibilities of a Manager, as one of the Senior Managers left the company and your Manager has essentially taken on that role. Your additional duties have caused you some stress and you would like to ask for either a promotion to a management position or, at minimum, additional compensation. You’ve previously expressed your frustrations to your Manager, but have been told that the company simply doesn’t have the ability to make any changes at this time. You have decided to approach your Manager again and ask for a meeting with the management team to discuss your future with the company.

Although you would prefer to take the promotion along with an accompanying pay raise, you are willing to accept a modest pay raise. If neither is agreed to, you have decided to begin looking for work at another organization. A friend of yours has let you know that she would be interested in talking with you about the possibility of taking a management position with her organization. Because of your time with your current company, you would prefer to stay there if possible. As you are a very shrewd negotiator, you have decided to use the Negotiation Planning Guide (Table 4.2) on Page 98 of your text.

Additional information that is useful in answering this question: 1. Your current salary is $44,000 per year. 2. The average salary for a Manager is $54,000 per year and also includes an additional week of Paid Time Off.

Answer the following questions:

  1. What are the issues in the upcoming negotiation?
  2. Based on a review of all the issues, what is the “bargaining mix”? (Which issues do you need to cover? Which issues are connected to the other issues?)
  3. What are your interests?
  4. What is your resistance point – what is your walkaway?
  5. What is your alternative?
  6. Define your targets and asking price – where will you start and what are your goals?
  7. Who are your constituents and what do they want you to do?
  8. Who are the opposing negotiators and what do they want?
  9. What overall strategy do you want to select?
  10. What protocol needs to be followed in conducting the negotiation?

The requirements below must be met for your paper to be accepted and graded:

NHS-FP6004: Assessment 4-Training Session for Policy Implementation

I’m trying to study for my Nursing course and I need some help to understand this question.

Develop a training plan for one of the role groups in the organization that will be responsible for implementing practice guidelines under the new organizational policy you presented in Assessment 3. Prepare an agenda for a two-hour workshop, and summarize your strategies for working with this group, the expected outcomes of the training, and why you chose this group to pilot the change.

Note: Each assessment in this course builds on the work you completed in the previous assessment. Therefore, you must complete the assessments in this course in the order in which they are presented.

Training and educating those within an organization who will be responsible for implementing and working with changes in organizational policy is a critical step in ensuring that prescribed changes have their intended benefit. A leader in a health care profession needs to be able to apply effective leadership, management, and educational strategies to ensure that colleagues and subordinates will be prepared to do the work that is asked of them. This assessment offers you an opportunity to develop and implement such strategies.

Assessment Instructions

In this assessment, you will build on the policy presentation work you completed in Assessment 3.

Preparation

Your policy proposal presentation secured buy in and support from the stakeholder group you addressed. They are enthusiastic about implementing your proposed policy and practice guidelines. In an effort to help ensure a smooth roll out and implementation of your proposal, senior leaders have asked you to create and lead a training session for one of the role groups in the organization that will be responsible for enacting the new policy and practices.

In addition, senior leaders have asked you to develop and submit a training plan for review and approval before conducting the requested training session. They have also requested that you cite 2–4 credible sources that support your proposed training strategies, your intended approach to generating buy in and support from the group, and your plans for working with the group to facilitate implementation of the policy and practice changes.

As outcomes of this training session, participants are expected to:

  • Understand the organizational policy and practice guidelines to be implemented.
  • Understand the importance of the policy to improving health care quality or outcomes.
  • Understand that, as a group, they are key to successful implementation.
  • Possess the necessary knowledge and skills for successful implementation.

Training Plan Requirements

Note: The tasks outlined below correspond to grading criteria in the scoring guide.

As key elements of your training plan, senior leaders have asked that you:

  • Develop strategies for engaging with the selected role group to ensure the group’s buy in, support, and preparedness to implement the changes in policy and practice guidelines. In a brief summary:
    • Describe your evidence-based strategies for engaging with the group during the training session.
    • Explain how you will ensure the group’s buy in, support, and preparedness.
    • Explain why you chose this group to pilot your proposal.
  • Identify the training activities and materials needed support learning and skill development and to prepare the group to successfully apply the new policy or practice guidelines to their work.
    • Create an annotated agenda and outline for a two-hour training workshop.
    • Explain how each proposed activity and individual item of training material in your workshop will support learning and skill development.
  • Describe the policy and practice guidelines changes to be implemented.
    • How will these changes affect the group’s daily work routines and responsibilities?
    • What examples, activities, or materials could you provide to help illustrate or clarify the nature and scope of the changes in policy and practice guidelines?
  • Justify the importance of the changes in policy or practice guidelines to improving the quality of care or outcomes that are related to this role group.
    • Why are these changes important?
    • How will these changes help improve the quality of care or outcomes?
    • How could you help to illustrate the importance of improved quality of care or outcomes for the role group you will be training?
  • Advocate for the importance of the role the group will play in implementing the changes in policy and practice guidelines.
    • Why is the group’s buy in and support important in implementing the changes?

Persuasion

I’m working on a Management question and need guidance to help me study.

For this assignment take a close look at both the required readings and videos on general concepts of persuasion such as the main principles laid out by Cialdini (2001) or in Section 14.2 of McLean (2012). Then take a look at some of the practical guides to persuasion such as Gorman (2007) and see which one of them is the most useful for you.

Case Assignment

When you have finished carefully reading these materials, write a 4 page paper addressing the following issues:

  1. Which of these readings or tutorials was the most convincing or presented the most useful information? Explain your reasoning as to why you found this source more convincing that the others.
  2. Based on the ideas about persuasion that you read about in the background readings, write a memo at least one page in length to your employees trying to persuade them to cancel their weekend plans and volunteer to work next weekend. This memo shouldn’t be an “order” that they need to work on the weekend, but rather an attempt to persuade them to do so. Make sure to use both the general concepts from Cialdini (2001) or McLean (2012) as well as some of the practical persuasion guides to help you craft your memo.
  3. Conclude your paper with a discussion of how your memo applied the concepts from the background materials. Be specific as to what sources you used and what sections of your memo was influenced by which source.

Assignment Expectations

  • Follow the assignment instructions closely and follow all steps listed in the instructions.
  • Stay focused on the precise assignment questions, don’t go off on tangents or devote a lot of space to summarizing general background materials.
  • Make sure to cite readings from the background materials page. Rely primarily on the required background readings as your sources of information.
  • Include both a bibliography and in-text citations. See the Student Guide to Writing a High-Quality Academic Paper, including pages 11-14 on in-text citations.
