Orozco
Good evening all,
Through a library search using our course resources, I went on another site which discusses the transition from being a surgical technologist to a first assist. A surgical technologist is there to help the surgeon/s in things such as help prep the surgical instruments by setting up the room, proper opening of surgical supplies, and equipment used in surgery. Though a surgical tech may not know the intimate details of a surgery, we know the steps to them, with that we can anticipate what the surgeon/s will need to make the surgery move along as it should. A first assistant, is not only one who can hand the surgeon what he/she needs, they they also take on a much higher level of involvement, almost like a surgeon.
A. This piece I found I trust is highly useful because it can help new and seasoned surgical techs help formulate a plan to step up their craft and create a plan that can get them to a higher level of patient care.
B. Until today, I did not know about this path for my specialty, I can even say with confidence that some of my fellow techs don’t know about it either. Therefore I find this to be highly valuable, not just to me, but even for the techs I work with, but as well as corpsmen that work in my facility looking to find a specialty.
C. Having met first assists throughout my training for surgical technologist, this specialty is a very real thing and because the training required to join this community is about as challenging as it is real.
For an individual to go from surgical technologist to a first assist in the Navy is probably unheard of, individuals that go this route and become first assists, they can continue to provide world class care and even take on some roles that nurses have. Essentially, a first assist, civilian or military, can act as a force multiplier which would greatly help the surgical team and especially to the patient.

PS385 Targeted Topics in Applied Behavior Analysis
I dont know how to handle this Psychology question and need guidance.
- Watch the Unit 2 Lecture. (Transcripts)
- Read the following scenario and respond to the primary post instructions and response instructions.
Setting the Scene:
You are a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) working for a school district in an inner city. You go from school-to-school on a rotating schedule, unless you are called in on a specific case. Yesterday afternoon, you received a call from Talbot Middle School. The principal explained that Mrs. Judson was having great difficulty with a student. When you asked about the situation, the principal said that each time Mrs. Judson handed out math or spelling worksheets, Tommy tore up the worksheets, ran to the back of the room, and began throwing the books out of the bookshelves toward the teacher. You asked how Mrs. Judson usually responded to the behaviors and the principal said she buzzed the office and asked that he come to her classroom to remove Tommy. The behavior has been happening twice a day for three weeks.
Discussion:
- Identify the target behavior and the antecedents and consequences in the scenario.
- Operationally define the target behavior.
- Based upon the contingencies (antecedent behavior consequence), hypothesize the probable function of the target behavior.
- Design a behavior intervention plan to address the behavior based upon the probable function that you identified.
Guided Response Posts:
Respond to two peers primary posts by critiquing their hypotheses of the probable function of the target behavior. Was the correct function identified? If not, identify the correct function of the target behavior and explain why you believe this to be the correct function. Then, provide an alternative behavior intervention for the target behavior. Provide a different intervention for each peer to whom you respond.

Science in the Media
There is nothing like reading a good book or watching a great movie for a little escapism and entertainment. With all of the television channels available and easy access to the internet, you can watch just about anything you want at any time. Earlier in the course you discussed the science involved with technology, but in this Assignment, you will turn the tables and delve into how the media portrays science.
How does a pop culture portrayal of science and scientists impact the average persons view of what science is and how research is conducted? Can what is presented by the media affect how the general populace views a particular research field? What might the long-term impacts of such a depiction be? These are just a few questions that you will reflect upon in this Assignment.
For the Unit 9 Assignment, you will complete a reflective essay to address the following questions:
- When you hear the word scientist what do you envision?
- Discuss at least three characteristics of your vision of a scientist.
- Which famous people or characters from the media come into your mind?
- What characteristics do they have in common?
- Has your image of what a scientist does and how they look changed over time? If so, how has this changed and what influenced you?
- Are fictional scientists usually the heroes, villains, or a combination of the two? Provide at least two detailed examples to support your position.
- How is science portrayed in fictional media (i.e., television shows, movies, music, books, etc.)? Is it seen as a positive, negative, or neutral force in the world? Give specific examples supporting your position.
- Do you think the portrayal of scientists in the various forms of media influences how society views people in this profession? Why, or why not?
- Can the portrayal of science in media influence how certain research and technology is viewed and accepted by the general public (e.g., cloning)?

Population and Society
Need help with my Geography question – Im studying for my class.
Answer the following questions for this week.
1. Explain Prisoner’s Dilemma and the Tragedy of the Commons. What is Hardin’s theory on the issues and how did his article ‘The Tragedy of the Commons’ address them?
2. Explain environmental ethics. What two environmental beliefs govern the relationship between Western civilization and the natural world? What are your views on how theorists should treat ethics when it comes to the environment and animals?
For the articles below, pick one (or both) and write at least a paragraph about your thoughts about the articles.
These are interesting articles I found that pertain to what we are going to study regarding population and the future of the Earth.
The first article in the New York Times, called ‘Americans Are Having Fewer Babies. They Told Us Why’ by Claire Cain Miller (you can google the article if the link does not work for you) was very interesting to read that, while the main reasons more people in the poll weren’t having children because of finances, that it wasn’t too far down the line of reasons that people stated they were concerned about global instability, climate change and population growth. What do you think about the article?
Here is the link: https://nyti.ms/2KSrN1P (Links to an external site.)
The second article talks about couples who are deciding not to have children at all, because of issues involving our Earth, conservation, overpopulation and how some see first-hand how they are being directly affected. Do you agree or disagree with their decision?
Here is the link for this article: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/20/give-up-having-children-couples-save-planet-climate-crisis (Links to an external site.)
These are only some of the hundreds of articles about issues with conservation and the future of our Earth and the issues that come with development and population increases. Please keep the conversations civil and respectful. You can disagree, but please be kind to your classmates, we are all entitled to our own opinions. Keeping discussions open and seeing other people’s points of view are how we can understand each other better and maybe learn something new!

Unit 1 Discussion Responses
Im studying and need help with a Business question to help me learn.
**There are 2 responses. Please write a 100 word response for each.
1.) Laurie:
As Bateman and Snell tell us, a strategy is a pattern of actions and resource allocations designed to achieve the organizations goals. (pg 125, 2015) As a new leader implementing a new strategy for my organization, my first course of action would be to listen. The need to hear from those in management and functioning roles before putting my strategic plan into action would greatly benefit my efforts.
In my current organization, a health-related non-profit, generating funding is essential to our success. With offices across the country, meeting with managers and staff in each office would be ideal. With sixty offices, this might seem impossible, but, with the use of technology such as Skype, face-to-face meetings could be easily arranged. The information garnered from current managers and staff would be extremely vital in understanding the needs of each facet of the organization to establish objectives to achieve our overall goal.
As is true with many organizations, a lack of proper communication between departments and levels of management is often overlooked. In my effort to hear from those who work in the trenches would not only provide a wealth of information but would also establish a rapport with the most important resource in the organization the staff.
After conducting this function, the introduction of a theme for our effort would be a helpful reminder Thanks Towards a Cure would serve as a motto for the implementation of our efforts. This plan would include an organizational-wide strategy to show appreciation to our donors without asking them for help. Too often, charities ask and ask only to ask again within a short period of time. In my current role, I have found that many donors appreciate not being asked so often and respond very well if they are contacted to say, thank you instead of can you. Internally, this same strategy could be utilized to show appreciation to the workers who often feel overworked and unnoticed as Christy Matta tells us, Employees who feel valued are more likely to be engaged in their work and feel satisfied and motivated.

2.) Jo Ann:
In the position at my job, the VABEs possess empathy, concern, respect, adaptability, and a positive attitude. These are the things that make my tasks easier or a least I think it does. I feel a sense of worth from doing a good deed or just my job, whichever, I feel good about it. I have witnessed several customers who seem to be at a loss to their next move, feeling embarrassed to seek out help. I am a believer and try to live my faith on the job.
The VABEs I begin with is empathy in offering an alternative method to their issues, never displaying a concern to their situations, because looks can be deceiving. Show respect in the services provided to the customers. It offers a person’s condition by demonstrating adaptability and having faith to speak words that God will change things in their lives with the hope that He will provide. For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the Lord our God is in all things that we call upon him for? (Deuteronomy 4:7).
What I have identified within the organization without leadership is language cues such as; followers, just being apart, making a check, and the day. Bureaucrat stuck in their bias ways of what they believe is right and the contrarians of not getting the job done, which leaves the customer back at square one, not served. Unless one does, one has little hope of understanding why people behave the way they do and, therefore, of influencing them in profound ways, ways that move beyond monitoring and constraining superficial behavior (Clawson, 2012, p. 27). The customers see us as providers ought to be as bright as a beam. We take for granted how people feel in their time of need. We lose sight that it could have been us on the other side of the desk.
