As an ECE educator, it is good practice to reflect on and assess your own practices. After reviewing the information from the lecture materials, including the supplemental readings, develop a self-assessment checklist that could be used for your own assessment of applying effective teaching strategies. To complete this assignment, do the following: Use the Teaching Strategies Self-Assessment Checklist and the Lesson Content, locate ten (10) teaching practices and strategies for effective teaching in Early Childhood programs. For each practice/strategy, list two (2) observable criteria that would indicate a teacher meets the strategy. For example, if one of your strategies is “Acknowledging Children,” what criteria would be used to assess the accomplishment of this strategy? Using the measurement system provided, complete the checklist section based on your current knowledge and/or work with young children. Developmental Observation Project Guidelines for Projects: All projects must be typed unless otherwise noted by the instructor.  Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation must be used.  Grammar will be considered when grading.  Projects should be neat and professionally presented.  Projects will be graded on completeness, thoroughness, and thoughtfulness. Developmental Observation Project: Objective:  To observe the development of young children birth through age 5. This project will consist of an extensive observation of 3 children: an infant, a toddler, and a preschooler.   Part I: For each of the 3 children, you will describe their development in the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional domains.  The textbooks should be used as a guide for specific aspects to observe.  For instance, when observing an infant, you might describe the physical characteristics of the child including height, weight, body control as well as small motor control.  You may also talk to the parents and ask them questions about development to include in your report.  You should have at least one page for each developmental domain.  The descriptions should be comprehensive and detailed.    Part II: Choose one theory of development discussed in the beginning of class.  For each child, write a page summary about each child’s development in terms of the theory.    For instance, according to Piaget, at what stage of development would the child be?  What led you to this conclusion?  What aspect about the child’s behaviors made this evident?  Provide examples. 

Format: Your 5 page paper must be written in Microsoft word using the equations editor. No plain text equations. The sixth page should have your 5 references in MLA style. Your paper must be single-spaced with 1 inch margins on each side.       Procedures and Guidelines:     Step 1: Bernhard Riemann a mathematician who born between 1600 and 1900 that you want to study in more detail. Gather 5 references you will use. Your reference must be published like a book or journal or magazine article, not just a webpage and not wikipedia.   Step 2: Your paper must be five pages long. Two pages on the history and life of Bernhard Riemann. Three pages on the mathematics he did.     In your paper you should not just talk about mathematics, but should actually do mathematics. For example, you may wish to select a mathematician and a particular mathematical technique that he or she initiated. So along with some biographical details, you must give examples of problems and at least one proof. Select material to convey that mathematics is about problem solving. Describe who used that mathematician’s work and how it was used. How would mathematics be different if that mathematician had not succeeded? Perhaps you may want to pick a mathematician who didn’t succeed in solving a particular problem. What impact did that have on mathematics? What was the error? Who else (if any) finally solved the problem? In other words, focus on the mathematics that the mathematician did and how it fits into the big picture. Your paper must have history, problems, theorems, and proofs.     

Journal Article Critique Assignment Instructions You will analyze and critique a peer reviewed journal article from a professional journal. The article must address the topic of discussion. You must select an article that is less than five years old. 1.Design a piece of language material on a topic of your choice for classroom use with a group of learners in your own context. The material may either be original or adapted from a coursebook, and it should be sufficient for 90 minutes of class time.  2. Define the language area you have chosen with reference to language analysis and language awareness principles, and explain why this focus area is appropriate for your chosen learner group. TYPES OF SOURCES SCAVENGER HUNT In this activity, you’re going to go on a scavenger hunt through your library’s resources and the Internet to locate examples of some of the different source types that you learned about in this section. Your scavenger hunt will cover three main areas: reference sources, primary and secondary sources, and government information.
