Writing a Plan

Question 1. The Annotated Bibliography should list 3 sources (2 that back your argument and 1 that serves as a counterargument), stating the title, author, publication information, and database. Then a brief summary of each article should be stated. I listed the prompts for this below. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: Identify your sources, including author, title, and the database information or website Summarize your source. (Use the template below.) It seems this source is arguing ____________________. This source is using this evidence to support the argument: ____________________. Credibility and Relevance Explain the rationale for the credibility of the source by providing supporting evidence. (Use the template below.) Personally, I believe the source is doing a (good job/bad job) of supporting its arguments because ____________________. Explain the relevance of the source to your argument. (Use the template below.) I think this source will be very helpful in supporting my argument because ________________________. –OR– I will work to refute this counterargument in my essay by ________________________. Sources: Clearly identifies sources selected from appropriate databases Summarize: Clearly identify arguments and includes at least one counterargument Credibility and Relevance: Explains the credibility of the sources and their relevance to the argument Articulation of Response: Submission has no major errors related to citations, grammar, spelling, syntax, or organization Here is an Example Used: hongyun, Zi. “Enduring Perfection: Reflections of the Beauty of Willa Cather’s Representative Work, O Pioneers!” Willa Cather Pioneer Memorial Newsletter. XXXII, No. 3 (Fall 1988): 25-27. EBSCOhost, ezproxy.snhu.edu/login?url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=6504012&site=ehost-live&scope=site This article discusses how the land and its beauty tie to the characters in the novel, O Pioneers! by Willa Cather. It uses the many descriptive scenes that Cather sets in the novel, comparing how the character connects to the scene he/she is in. Personally, I believe the source does a good job explaining how each character is reflected in the scene and how the scene ties to character emotion or action. Because I am concerned in my essay with the character, Ivar, the article’s points will need to be extended to his characterization because Ivar is not mentioned in Zhongyn’s article. However, many of the elements that connect him to nature and the land are discussed. I plan to use this information in explaining Ivar’s importance as a creature of nature. Other articles used for the essay will help provide the missing evidence, further exploring Ivar’s character. Question 2. The writing plan guidelines Overview: Persuasion is constant in each of our lives. No matter where we look, what we read, what we see, or who we interact with, we are inevitably going to encounter some form of persuasion. Advertisements want us to buy things. Newspapers and television want to convince us of how we should feel about events. We are put into positions where we must defend our thoughts and beliefs to others, and the process we apply is typically some form of persuasion. Persuasive writing is one of the most powerful forms of writing—it has the ability to influence one’s thoughts, and also the ability to change one’s mind about a particular issue. The persuasive essay is an ideal opportunity to support an opinion on an issue using researched facts and information. It also gives you the chance to recognize opposing viewpoints and refute it, noting that those who hold the opposing viewpoints are the intended audience of the piece. Prompt: For this essay, you will identify an issue in your current major, a major you are interested in pursuing, or your field of work. You will then establish an argument and support that argument with research and relevant evidence. Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed: I. Writing Plan: Use this writing plan as a way to gather your thoughts and determine your strategy for writing your critical analysis essay. This process will allow you to develop a potential structure for effectively communicating and supporting your claim. This plan will be helpful in keeping your thought process on track when you begin writing and revising your essay. A. Describe the argument to be addressed in your persuasive essay. Explain how the argument relates to your major, the major you are considering pursuing, or your field of work. B. Determine three key points that will be helpful in supporting your argument. C. Identify the audience who will be reading your essay. What potential challenges will you encounter in supporting your argument with this demographic? D. Establish a goal that you hope to accomplish with this essay. What will this essay need to be successful? E. List potential resources that could be used as supporting evidence for your argument, and provide a brief description of each and how they will reinforce your argument. F. Align key points of your argument with supporting resources for establishing an effective essay structure. G. Based on your argument, determine at what points in the essay integrating evidence would be most effective, and explain why. H. Describe a revision strategy that would be most effective while writing this essay. Why would this strategy be effective? I. Review the feedback provided by your instructor on assignments submitted thus far. How does this feedback influence your progress moving forward? What changes did you make to your writing plan after receiving this outside feedback? Writing plan Argument Key Points Audience Goal Potential Resources Evidence Feedback Revision Is Technology Moral? The key argument in this essay is whether technology is moral. This argument is related to teaching, which is my field of work since teachers are expected to instil morals in their students. According to this paper, technology is responsible for the high rise of evil in society. First, technology encourages cyberbullying and cyberstalking (Heirman & Walrave, 2018). Cyberbullying includes making rude and insensitive comments on another person’s post to make them feel bad. Second, technology has made access to pornographic content easier. This content has adverse effects on young people, such as increased masturbation and rape cases (Coopersmith, 2016). Additionally, through technology, movies, and music videos are portraying a lot of sexual content. Third, technology has enabled video games and virtual games. Research indicates that violent virtual games are the most selling games. Children are the primary consumers of these games, which has adverse psychological effects such as addiction, aggressiveness, and violence (Cruz-Benito et al., 2015). My classmates will read this essay. This particular demographic consists of students below the age of thirty-five. The key challenges I am likely to face while supporting this argument are rejection since young demographic are the significant consumers of the Internet. This demographic is also the primary beneficiary of technology in terms of access to information, ease of communication, and networking. This essay’s primary goal is to encourage the audience to consume technology in the right way and promote morality. The paper needs to present persuasive reasons why technology can be harmful and the resulting side effects. Three resources provide evidence for the argument. First, (Heirman & Walrave, 2008) provide evidence and data on how technology, such as the Internet, has been a useful tool in cyberbullying. The resource has listed examples of harsh and insensitive comments made on others. Second, (Coopersmith, 2016) lists the variety of pornographic content available on the Internet. It provides data indicating that the primary consumers of this content are young people. The resource also includes data on rapists who are previous consumers of pornographic material. Third, (Cruz-Benito et al., 2015) provides evidence of how violent virtual games contribute to aggressiveness, promote violence and addiction to young children. It would be most useful to integrate evidence after highlighting the key points and listing the resources available in support of the argument. This will instil confidence in the audience. The proof will persuade the reader to agree with the argument and take action. The best strategy for revising the essay is through creating a writing plan that will guide the flow of thoughts and essay structure. This method will ensure all areas are thoroughly addressed, and all views are properly tracked. This feedback has enabled me to understand better how to write an appealing persuasive essay. It has also helped me to understand the weak areas that require improvements. I have made changes in the structure of the writing plan and the flow of thoughts. I have ensured that the ideas flow in a chronological manner that allows the reader to understand the arguments better, making it more persuasive. Research should be about the individual you have chosen and the impact they had on their world as well as the importance/enduring value they hold today. Do not make the paper all about dates or a timeline of the individual’s life but do add some interesting tidbits. In other words, you don’t want to write a biography, write about their importance and impact on the art world. Discuss interesting history about the person but more importantly, discuss what importance YOU think they had in shaping the human spirit of their day and how they may still affect us today. More questions you might consider: WHY are they a landmark? How did they impact the art world? Who influenced them? What were some of their major contributions to the art world? To humanity? What did they tell us about ourselves during their time period? The How: Length of Research Paper: 1,000-word minimum. It must be typed and double-spaced. Must have an MLA heading, paragraphs, thesis statement, introduction, middle, conclusion. Works Cited: YES (This is a list of the resources you cited in your paper.) NOTE: Works cited do NOT count in your overall word count. DO NOT cite everything in your paper. This is another form of plagiarism.
