Complaints and accusations of abusive collection practices pile up against Rent-A-Center. (2017, November 15). MarketWatch.   This is in Texas. You might take a look at possible prosecution of Rent-A-Center in California. Not clear this is all the same umbrella company, a franchise, or just common practices by same type companies in TX, but I suspect it is RAC. Take a look at the second article I listed in VA. For other the legal topics, consider contract, defamation, trespass, criminal law, and other torts (research these how these apply)             research and cover the following points in a well written essay. Use APA format and topical headings. In an introductory paragraph identify the company, the topic and a well crafted thesis statement. Briefly describe the company and the nature of its business and corporate business environment. Do not spend a lot of time on the history of the company, but do describe sufficiently to create meaningful context. This should only need to be a paragraph. Research, define and discuss the legal issues and regulatory environment for the company’s consumer or antitrust issue. (i.e., What are the laws involved?) Include case law. Ethical dilemma and frameworks: Identify the ethical dilemma that the company presents with respect to its antitrust or consumer problem. This should be encapsulated in a single sentence. Evaluate two ethical frameworks with respect to the company’s management’s decisions that led to the situation. One of these should be the ethical framework you identify as the framework the company followed in its decision-making. The other should be a contrasting framework that might have produced a different situation for the company. Other legal topics that relate to the company’s business: Also, clearly define and evaluate three (3) additional legal topics (NOT antitrust or consumer protection) that we covered this term — and that are explained in your text and required readings, and apply them to the company’s business. (Hint: Review the legal topics in the textbook and cite to the the text in your analysis. We covered many subjects. Examples: contracts, torts, product liability, bankruptcy, securities & stocks trading, employment issues, defamation, privacy, ADR, etc. Include illustrative case law.) General recommendations for business leadership and managers that you have learned from this study (not just for the company you have selected, but for running a business). Conclusion. Discuss the legal issues and concepts identified and make recommendations for management. Proper citation and references formatting must be in APA 7th Ed. Papers that do not include appropriate in text citations will lose points. Dictionaries, encyclopedias — including Investopedia — Wikis, and the like, and Internet generic quick-answer websites are not acceptable to populate your Reference list. Use your text, required readings, and other scholarly sources. Organize your paper with appropriate subheadings. Do not write in 1st or 2nd person. Paper must be written in 3rd person. Do not use contractions. All sources on References list must be correctly cited in the text of the paper and vice versa.

Remember that an unexpected crisis occurring within a planned change has no obvious precipitating causes. That does not mean there were no causes, just that these were sufficiently subtle they weren’t recognizable by the firm’s leadership or personnel. Review the peer-reviewed and professional literature for a planned change that was not successful and resulted in the organization ceasing to do business in its prior form. Identify a well-known organization that has experienced this history and research what was discovered after the organization dissolved or was purchased. Develop a timeline that provides the key elements in the organization’s history. Use visual effects such as a poster with PowerPoint, or any program you select, including Word. Be sure to include the following: Provide the history of the organization to the point of change and beyond in the timeline. Explain the planned change in which the unexpected crisis occurred. Indicate when the organization ceased to operate in its original form. Indicate when the firm reorganized and proceeded to grow. Introduction In this session, you have been considering moral-ethical dilemmas you yourself faced or that you know of that you either resolved or failed to resolve, but hopefully learned from. You may never have given much thought to ethical theory nor what ethical premises/paradigms you have unconsciously held. You will be focusing on this case for this assignment: Jane Doe is a nursing student at University X. Jane is in week eight of a course entitled: “Introduction to Ethics”. For the week one discussion, Jane copied work done by her friend John Doe in the same class two months ago (with a different professor). John told Jane it was okay to use his work as John’s professor never checked any work in the class using Turnitin.com. John claimed to have earned an A on the work also. In week two, Jane went to StudentPapering.com and paid ten dollars for a week two essay done by a student (not John Doe) who took the same course four months ago. StudentPapering promises that all its archived work is of excellent quality and cannot be detected as copied. Jane then uploaded an exact copy of the work for the week two assignment. In week three, Jane paid a worker at PaperingStudent.com ten dollars to write for Jane a brand new essay after Jane shared with the worker the essay assignment instructions. In week four, Jane relied on her knowledge of Esperanto. She felt pressed for time and found an article by a professor from Esperanto on the week four topic. She translated Esperanto into English using Moogle Translate, and the translated text served as her week four paper. In week five, Jane was running late again. Jane purposely uploaded a blank paper hoping that she would later claim it was an innocent mistake and not be assessed a late penalty. In a previous course on History, she had done the same (with an earlier paper from the History class rather than simply a blank) and had not seen any late penalty assessed. In week six, Jane took work she did in a nursing course from a year ago and submitted that for her discussion posting in her current class. She simply copied and pasted the work she had labored intensively on a year ago (even though University X forbids this practice as ‘self-plagiarism’). Jane was confident her Nursing instructor never checked that work using Turnitin.com or another method. In week seven, Jane copied and pasted work found on website.com for the paper. Jane did not use any quotation marks or other documentation to show the text was not by Jane. Jane feels her actions are morally justified both because her economic situation requires her to work too much to devote time to school (although other students are well-off enough to have such time) and her religion forbids cheating, but Jane ignores her religion’s teachings. Imagine that you are the doctor in charge of emergency services in a small, local hospital. Your hospital has three ventilators, which help people who are struggling to breather to stay alive. Today five people are admitted to the hospital with coronavirus symptoms, and all five need help breathing. Without knowing anything (yet) about the patients, your hospital has to formulate a policy about how to decide who gets to use a ventilator and who will not (keeping in mind that it may be that someone who does not get to use a ventilator may die, and someone who gets to use a ventilator may not live). Use EACH ethical theory to describe a policy (so: THREE total policy options) that your hospital might implement. HINT: how will a utilitarian say this policy should be decided?
