Health Care Finance Interview Identify a leader in a health care setting who is responsible for fiscal planning and financial management. This person may be solely responsible for financial management or have multiple duties and responsibilities that include fiscal planning and financial management. Provide some organizational background (location, size, focus, services provided, demographics of patients served, for- or nonprofit status, et cetera). Explain all of the financial-related tasks and responsibilities that your interviewee engages in. Here is an example of the adequate description: Sean struggles with dressing himself independently due to difficulties with problem solving and sequencing, which stem from his diagnosis of cognitive disability. He is unable to orient the clothes in relation to his body, may put pants on before underwear, and will inappropriately pick out clothes in accordance with the weather. When it comes to participating in family game nights, Sean has trouble following rules and social norms. He will act impulsively, lack turn taking, talk over his parents, and misunderstand the objective of many games.  Make sure to include aspects of complex diversity in your case study (cultural, religious, racial, regional, etc). List three occupations in which your client has difficulty participating in due to their health condition and present level of functioning. Indicate which area of occupation and a sub-category as classified in the practice framework. These occupations must be impaired due to the condition, not due to the secondary psycho-social implications. Be sure to list specific occupations, not a broad category (e.g., “Self-feeding with a spoon” not just overall “Feeding”) according to the practice framework. For each occupation, list four client factors and four performance skills or performance patterns (eight total) that are limiting their ability to participate in these occupations (they must be related to the health condition and the occupation). Review articles (2,000 to 3,500 words): These articles offer either a concise critical assessment of the current state of knowledge about a disease or condition encountered by PAs or a how-to approach to diagnosing and/or managing a specific problem. The journal welcomes submissions on a variety of medical and surgical topics relevant to PAs. The author should avoid writing a standard academic literature review, which is systematic, comprehensive, and heavily referenced, in favor of a selective review and update that emphasizes what is practical, current, and evidence-based. Do not simply summarize and describe what the literature shows; instead, explain how what the literature reveals can be practically applied. References should be recent and should, for the most part, be drawn from peer-reviewed journals. Drawing references from secondary knowledge databases such as UpToDate or Micromedex is inappropriate. Textbook references and generic medical web-sites should be largely avoided. These articles are intended above all to be useful. Once PAs read the article, they should be able to put the information it provides immediately into practice.
