Growing Pains: The New Republic, 1790–1820 Describe the growth of the first party system in the United States. How did these parties come to develop?How did they define themselves, both independently and in opposition to one another? Where did they find themselves in agreement? 300 words, APA format and a minimum of 3 references

Read Chapters 4 and 5 and pay particular attention to the section called “VOICES: Boston Slaves Link Their Freedom to American Liberty” in Chapter 4. Once all reading is complete, respond to the following: What is the object of this petition? What Enlightenment principles does the petition invoke? What is the significance of the slaves’ vow to go to Africa if freed? Submit an initial posting (200 words minimum) that addresses the items above. You are also expected to respond to the posting of at least one other student (100 words minimum). Your response should address why you agree/disagree with their posting, support it with new evidence to bring a new perspective to the topic. Do NOT submit anything as an attachment since some people cannot open certain formats.

Historical Figure of your choice. (Humanitarian, Entertainer, Sports Figure, Politician, Activist, Entrepreneur, etc.) They cannot be alive. Go ahead and pick your person and start researching this person and start thinking about how you’d like to present this person.  (Side note: Ultimately, the speech should not be a bio. of your person. Create a specific thesis. What point or part of their life will the speech be about? Let this guide the material you start to generate.) Just start working on this and the material. We’ll shape and mold this into the actual speech in the next couple of weeks by Week 8, so there’s no hurry. I wouldn’t think of this in terms of the speech yet. Just pick your person and start researching that person and get a handle on the material. Activity: The impact of government on the daily lives of individuals The impact of government intervention in the lives of citizens has always varied from country to country. In totalitarian regimes, the laws passed by the governments have a profound and intrusive impact on the lives of individuals. This can be both positive and negative. In democracies, the role of government can be less obvious but still has a significant impact on daily life. Aim Find out about the impact of government on the daily lives of individuals at different times and in different countries. How will you do this? Choose one of the following countries/time periods and research the role of government is impacting on the daily life of individuals (or decide on a country and time period of your own choice). Here are some questions that you might consider, though you may also want to develop your own questions: a) What are the key laws that affected people's lives? b) Identify both the positive and negative impacts on the daily lives of individuals. c) Did some groups of people benefit more or suffer more than others as a result of government intervention? Time periods you could consider: a) Nazi Germany, 1933-45 b) The Soviet Union under Stalin, 1929-53 c) The USA under Roosevelt, 1933-45 d) East Germany, 1945-89 e) China, 1949-76 f) Cuba under Castro, 1959-2008 How will you present your findings? Theme: Conflict and Crisis during the Cold War Era During the Cold War era, many regions around the world experienced conflict, crises, and, in some cases, war. Each of these conflicts or crises had an impact on the way the Cold War ran its course. Task: ? Discuss two different conflicts or crises during the Cold War era. ? Describe what led up to each conflict or crisis, how each played out, and what brought each to their eventual end. ? For each conflict, describe how those nations involved were affected economically, politically, and socially. Then, compare the conflicts. You may select any two Cold War-era conflicts/crises from your study of world history and geography. Some suggestions you may wish to consider include the Korean War, the Vietnam War, civil wars in Africa, and the Cuban Missile Crisis. You are not limited to these suggestions.
