A federal government department has high levels of absenteeism among the office staff. The head of office administration argues that employees are misusing the company’s sick leave benefits. However, some of the mostly female staff members have explained that family responsibilities interfere with work. Using the MARS model, as well as your knowledge of absenteeism behavior, discuss some of the possible reasons for absenteeism here and how it might be reduced. 2. It has been said that all employees are motivated. Do you agree with this statement? 3. Studies report that heredity has a strong influence on an individual’s personality. What are the implications of this influence in organizational settings?

Choose an existing health care organization that you can use as the basis for your analysis and business plan. When selecting the organization, ensure that it meets the following criteria: Organization may be for profit, non-profit, or community based. Information about the organization, including financial data, should be publicly available to ensure you can complete the required organizational analysis. Once you have selected the organization, conduct research to learn about the organization. Consider potential barriers with organizational stakeholders, the organizational design and culture, and how these impact change initiatives. Part 1: Organizational Chart Review Chapter 19 in the textbook, paying special attention to Figure 19.6 “Multi-National Pharmaceutical Company.” Using Figure 19.6 as a model, evaluate the organization you have selected. Create an organizational chart by market segment. This can be used to evaluate business processes in relation to the internal value chain and to communicate to organizational stakeholders the way that culture affects strategic planning. Part 2: Business Memo Imagine you have been asked to communicate your findings about the organization to stakeholders. In a 500-750 word business memo to stakeholders, address the following. *Describe the organizational culture. *Discuss the implications of the culture on strategic planning. *Explain the difference between operating activities and strategic initiatives. *Communicate where the value is in the organization based upon the structure. *Identify areas of opportunity and explain where process changes would be seen or come from. *Identify potential barriers to strategic planning and explain actions that could be taken to overcome the barriers.

For this assignment, review the basic concepts of persuasion discussed in Cialdini (2001) and McLean (2012). Make sure you are clear on the distinction between argument, persuasion, and propaganda. Once you have finished reviewing the background materials, think about communication that you receive in your daily life that is intended to sway your attitudes, opinion, or behavior. This could be communication from your employer, YouTube videos, TV advertisements, spam email, and a host of other communication that you are exposed to in your daily life. After reviewing some communication examples, write a 3-page paper with a minimum of two scholarly sources (citing and referencing) addressing the following questions: Describe a communication example that you have seen that is best described as propaganda. In addition to describing the communication, explain why you think this was propaganda rather than argumentation or persuasion. Now find a communication example that you think is a good example of argumentation. Last, but definitely not least, find a communication example that is best defined as persuasion and best fits the concepts of persuasion discussed in Cialdini (2001) or McLean (2012). Explain why you think this communication best fits the definition of persuasion rather than propaganda or argumentation. Critically review a coaching quality or skill (Emphathy); Importantly this element of the assignment is more than a description of a skill, although this is involved. It requires you to look at the skill or quality from different academic perspectives, outlining the main features, looking for similarities and differences in how the concept is viewed, what strengths and weaknesses are inherent and offering an evaluation. Do additional sources used provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper? Citing Sources: Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate?
