The Occupational Employment Statistics (OES) program under Bureau of Labor Statistics produces employment and wage estimates annually for nearly 800 occupations. Browse through the website and pick an industry of your interest and answer the following two questions in your main post: 1) What is the trend of the employment in this particular industry in a particular state/metropolitan area/local county in the last 5-10 years? 2) How has the industry been affected by public health crisis such as the covid-19 pandemic or natural disasters such as hurricane or tropical storms? Support your opinions with statistical evidence or relevant economic articles. In the end, don’t forget to raise a meaningful question to keep the discussion moving.  You are strongly encouraged to do research on your topic with at least one reference citation (web citation acceptable) in APA style. Please provide your citation/reference at the end of each post.

Find and record the pulse rate of 10 different people where you work. Tell us a little about the population from which you drew your data.  I collected the following data…radial pulse rates 54, 62, 63, 72, 75, 77,80, 83, 96, 112.  My co-workers that I received my data from range from 24-year-old healthy, fit runner to a 64-year-old who is 2 months away from retirement.  The data came from colleagues that are nurses, a house keeper, resident doctors, unit secretary, and a surgical technician.   Describe your findings in terms of central tendency and variability. Consider using some of the following to help you form your initial discussion post: What are your measures of central tendency (i.e., mean, median, and mode)? Which might be the better measure for central tendency and why? What is the standard deviation of your data? How variable are the data (range)? Are there any outliers? Investigate possible reasons for these outliers, and things that might limit them if further study were to be carried out. What are some variables that should be considered in discussing your measures of central tendency and variation? Is there any skewness in your measured data? How would you describe this data (i.e. what insights did you gain from this data)?

Mid Term Paper: You will write a paper in proper APA format, including a title page, be double spaced in 12 pt. font, and include citations. The Greed Cycle” on page 175-185 will be presented. This week we will begin the inference part of the course, which is making an estimate or testing a claim about a population based on only a sample. The first  video gives an introduction to estimation and an overall summary of the confidence interval. We will cover this in more detail in class this week. The second video goes through an example of how to calculate and interpret a confidence interval for battery life Go ahead and watch these videos and make comments about what they are trying to convey about estimation using confidence intervals.

Analyzing Descriptive Statistics As a practice scholar, you are searching for evidence to translate into practice. In your review of the evidence, you locate a quantitative descriptive research study as possible evidence to support a practice change. You notice the sample of this study includes 200 participants and is not normally distributed. Reflect upon this scenario to address the following. •    What statistical procedure is needed to determine an effective sample size to make a reasonable conclusion? Explain your rationale. •    Reading through the study, you observe that the researcher used a chi-square analysis to analyze nominal and ordinal data. Is this the appropriate level of statistical analysis to answer the research question? Explain your rationale. •    Reading further, the researcher reports that the p-level led her to conclude that the null hypothesis was rejected. In your critique of the study, you determine that the null hypothesis is true. Do these findings impact your decision about whether to use this evidence to inform practice change? Why or why not?
