The growth of technology has had a profound impact on the dissemination of music.  Compare and contrast the impact of sheet music publishing in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries with the impact of the internet in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. How did these technologies affect the creation and consumption of music in their respective eras? How has music literacy been affected?

Choose a country musician and write about their influence on the music industry.

There should be 5 critical reviews of classic albums from specific topics within the rock area. Each review should be no more than 1 page and should offer some insight and/or analysis of the album’s historical context or significance. (all albums reviewed should be in the 20th century.) Using cast albums, reviews, photographs, and other documentary evidence, explore how the musical, ‘Porgy and Bess’ has been changed over time, in terms of either its performance practice, musical arrangement, or reception. This musical has been made into films, but focus on it’s stage iterations. Sources could include Spotify and YouTube for audio and visual material, the Internet Broadway Database and Playbill Vault for data, the New York Times and other newspapers for reviews and advertisements, and the Library of Congress, Museum of the City of New York, and New York Public Library digital collections for images.
