Week 7 Predictions, Outcomes, and Variables
Develop your project predictions and desired outcomes portion of your paper using the following as starting points:
Describe the desired outcomes: Specifically, state the purpose, focus, and viewpoint of the project as well as its expected accomplishments. While you may not be implementing your project, you should have a goal in mind that relates to solving your problem.
A project goal should reference the projects benefits in terms of cost, time, and/or quality that address needs or changes, results, impacts, or consequences that the project has on people, programs, or institutions.
Goals and objectives should be measurable, shared, and hypothetically agreed on by all key stakeholders. They are directly linked to the concept of project success factors.
What variables need to be considered and would you have control over them? For example, if you were to implement a department wide system change, would budget be an issue and how would you address that variable?
If you were to implement your study, how would you gather data? Would the focus be qualitative or quantitative?
What will your research provide to the community or to social change?
In the statistical sense, what is already known about your problem? Cite evidence from your literature review.
Compose a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the intended outcomes of your project.
Question 2
Week 4 Integrative Literature Review
Write a literature review of your topic using peer-reviewed articles and books, as well as non-research literature such as evidence-based guidelines, toolkits, and standardized procedures. Identify and cite all sources of data according to APA guidelines.
In at least 5 pages:
Critique the most current research to support your problem; this research will help drive the focus of your project.
Summarize the key findings of the research and its relevancy to your project.
Describe any gaps in knowledge that you found and the effects this may have on health informatics as it relates to your project topic. The literature review should be a synthesis of how each article or study relates to your project.
When writing your literature review, remember to include subtopics to your main topic and gather data on these areas as well.
Your integrative literature review should be at least 5 pages in length, not including the cover or reference pages, and must contain a minimum of 10 scholarly articles published within the past 57 years.
This literature is considered a draft and will need to be revised for integration into your final paper. Please make sure to review your instructors feedback.

Sociocultural Influences on Womens Health
Week 1 discussion
Discussion: Political, Social, and Sociocultural Influences on Womens Health
As an advanced practice nurse, you must remain current on health issues that commonly impact women such as birth control, abortion, family planning, the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Many of these womens health issues are heavily influenced by political, social, and sociocultural factors. These influences might not only affect a womans ability or desire to receive care, but also a providers ability or willingness to offer care. How might political, social, and sociocultural factors influence your personal perceptions of these womens health issues?
To prepare:
Review this weeks media presentation, as well as Chapter 1 of the Schuiling and Likis text.
Select and research one of the following womens health issues: birth control, abortion, family planning, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in women, or another issue approved by the course Instructor.
Consider the impact of political, social, and sociocultural factors on the womens health issue you selected.
Reflect on how the personal perceptions of providers might influence their ability or willingness to care for women in relation to this issue.
Week 2 assignment
Assignment: Assessing and Treating Pediatric Clients With Mood Disorders
When pediatric clients present with mood disorders, the process of assessing, diagnosing, and treating them can be quite complex. Children not only present with different signs and symptoms than adult clients with the same disorders, but they also metabolize medications much differently. As a result, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners must exercise caution when prescribing psychotropic medications to these clients. For this Assignment, as you examine the client case study in this weeks Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat pediatric clients presenting with mood disorders.
Note: This Assignment is the first of 10 assignments that are based on interactive client case studies. For these assignments, you will be required to make decisions about how to assess and treat clients. Each of your decisions will have a consequence. Some consequences will be insignificant, and others may be life altering. You are not expected to make the right decision every time; in fact, some scenarios may not have a right decision. You are, however, expected to learn from each decision you make and demonstrate the ability to weigh risks versus benefits to prescribe appropriate treatments for clients.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
Assess client factors and history to develop personalized plans of antidepressant therapy for pediatric clients
Analyze factors that influence pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in pediatric clients requiring antidepressant therapy
Evaluate efficacy of treatment plans
Analyze ethical and legal implications related to prescribing antidepressant therapy to pediatric clients

Week 7 assignment
Assignment: Assessing and Treating Clients With Pain
Pain can greatly influence an individuals quality of life, as uncontrolled pain negatively impacts mood, concentration, and the overall physical and mental well-being of clients. Although pain can often be controlled with medications, the process of assessing and treating clients can be challenging because pain is such a subjective experience. Only the person experiencing the pain truly knows the intensity of the pain and whether there is a need for medication therapies. Sometimes, beliefs about pain and treatments for pain can have an adverse effect on the provider-client relationship. For this Assignment, as you examine the interactive case study consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with pain.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
Assess client factors and history to develop personalized therapy plans for clients with pain
Analyze factors that influence pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in clients requiring therapy for pain
Evaluate efficacy of treatment plans for clients presenting for pain therapy
Analyze ethical and legal implications related to prescribing therapy for clients with pain

Week 8 assignment
Assignment: Assessing and Treating Clients With Impulsivity, Compulsivity, and Addiction
Impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction are challenging disorders for clients across the lifespan. These disorders often manifest as negative behaviors, resulting in adverse outcomes for clients. In your role as the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, you have the opportunity to help clients address underlying causes of the disorders and overcome these behaviors. For this Assignment, as you examine the client case study in this weeks Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction.
Learning Objectives
Students will:
Assess client factors and history to develop personalized therapy plans for clients with impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction
Analyze factors that influence pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes in clients requiring therapy for impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction
Evaluate efficacy of treatment plans
Analyze ethical and legal implications related to prescribing therapy for clients with impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction

Week 8 discussion
DQ1 Post your Evidence-Based Practice Proposal Project Presentation. Review all of the presentations but provide critical commentary only to five others posted. Address the strengths of the proposal as well as recommendations for improvement. If a post already has five feedback posts then move on to another one. You will be responsible for responding to each peers feedback that is posted to your original presentation post.
DQ2 There is power in having data to support change. The EBP process is one way of advancing improvements in healthcare. Identify three strategies that you will now incorporate into your practice based on this course. Explain your rationale.
Question 2
Formulate your PICOT question and post it to the main forum. Respond to at least four other statements, providing feedback. Review the statements to see if the clinical issue is clearly defined and that all aspects are identified. Also refer to the PICOT: Components of an Answerable, Searchable Question table, located in chapter 2 of the text. If one PICOT statement has at least three feedback posts, move to another statement.
You will be using the feedback to make revisions to your PICOT question before using it in your Section B: Problem Description assignment.
DQ2 What strategies will you use in your new practice as an advance practice nurse to review and critique literature pertinent to your practice?
Week 3 discussion
DQ1 What levels of evidence are present in relation to research and practice, and why it is important regardless of the method you use?
DQ2 What factors must be assessed when critically appraising quantitative studies (e.g., validity, reliability, and applicability)? Which is the most important? Why?
Week 4 discussion
DQ1 What are some of the obstacles or barriers to implementing EBP in nursing? Provide a rationale for your answer. Since there are numerous topics on the issue, it is not appropriate to repeat one that has already been mentioned unless providing new information.
DQ2 Conducting research projects while ensuring the protection of human subjects is necessary. What are some methods to protect personal rights of someone in one of the groups that is labeled as vulnerable? Justify your rationale.
Week 5 discussion
DQ1 Why is it important to incorporate a theory or model related to change when implementing practice changes? Does the benefit of incorporating a change model outweigh the time and effort it took to include it?
DQ2 Consider an obstacle or barrier to the implementation of evidence-based practice you identified in last weeks discussion. What are two ways to address this problem?
Week 6 discussion
DQ1 When reviewing the literature and different types of evidence, there are often gaps in the findings. Are such gaps a help or a hindrance when wanting to create a change?
DQ2 What is the difference between statistically significant evidence and clinically significant evidence? How would each of these findings be used to advance an evidenced-based project?
Week 7 discussion
Research and EBP projects can be communicated in many ways. Which method do you think is most effective to get to the staff nurse level? To the advance practice nurses? How will you ensure that all appropriate audiences receive your information?
