The basis for our lesson this week came from the Standards of Practice for Culturally Competent Nursing Care Executive Summary, Transcultural Nursing Society: https://www.tcns.org/standards (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
Assume your nursing leader has decided that the department needs to better incorporate these Standards of Practice for Culturally Competent Nursing Care into the nursing care delivery model at your organization. There are 12 Standards.
Download and read the Executive Summary, and select one of the 12 standards as the basis for the discussion. Think about the standards as they relate to culturally sensitive care.
Explain how your department or organization currently gives credence to this standard.
If it does not, from your newfound knowledge, offer suggestions of how the standard can be incorporated into patient care in your department or organization.
Note: Make sure you choose a standard that another student has not selected. Keep in mind that each of us does not work in an acute care setting, so examples from other practice settings will add to a more robust discussion.

Assignment: Assessing and Treating Clients With Dementia

Assignment: Assessing and Treating Clients With Dementia
Assignment: Assessing and Treating Clients With Dementia
The Alzheimer’s Association defines dementia as “a general term for a decline in mental ability severe enough to interfere with daily life” (Alzheimer’s Association, 2016). This term encompasses dozens of cognitive disorders of impaired memory formation, recall, and communication. The care and treatment of clients with dementia is dependent on multiple factors, including the stage of dementia, comorbidities, family support, and even the care setting. In your role, as the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, you must be prepared to not only treat clients with these various cognitive disorders, but also the multiple behavioral issues that often accompany them. For this Assignment, as you examine the client case study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with dementia.

An informatician conducts data assessments of public health information. They are responsible for organizing, synthesizing, and interpreting data and transforming it into pertinent information that may be used to identify implications for public health program planning and development.
In this assignment, you will continue to use your pre-intervention asthma surveillance data set from the CDC in the Excel spreadsheet to analyze your database from a summary perspective. You will calculate various statistical means of the asthma data in your Excel spreadsheet using Pivot Table reports. You will then answer the following questions in a 3–4-page paper, and embed your pivot tables in your report to explain the summary results.
What statistical mean results do your Pivot Tables demonstrate about this grade school population of students?
Data Means Statistical Questions
What was the most frequent number of missed days?
What is the mean (average) number of missed days because of asthmatic conditions?
Which school had the highest average of missed days?
Was the school with the highest average of missed days for males the same as the school with the highest average of missed days for females?
Is the average number of missed days higher among those who answered yes to asthma than the overall average?
What is the average age of the student population?
In a summary, explain how an informatician can use an outcome measurement of missed school days to monitor and evaluate population health; in this situation, asthma cases in elementary school children. Refer to the following article by Moonie, Sterling, Figgs, and Castro (2006):

Assignment:Sleep/Wake Disorders

Assignment:Sleep/Wake Disorders
Assignment:Sleep/Wake Disorders
It is not uncommon to experience a night or two of disrupted sleep when there is something major going on in your life. However, sleep/wake disorders are much more than an occasional night of disrupted sleep. A recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that between 50 and 70 million American have problems with sleep/wake disorders (CDC, 2015). Although the vast majority of Americans will visit their primary care provider for treatment of these disorders, many providers will refer patients for further evaluation. For this Discussion, you consider how you might assess and treat the individuals based on the provided client factors.

Discussion: Presentations of ADHD
Although ADHD is often associated with children, this disorder is diagnosed in clients across the lifespan. While many individuals are properly diagnosed and treated during childhood, some individuals who have ADHD only present with subsyndromal evidence of the disorder. These individuals are often undiagnosed until they reach adulthood and struggle to cope with competing demands of running a household, caring for children, and maintaining employment. For this Discussion, you consider how you might assess and treat individuals presenting with ADHD.
