Poverty in urban areas tends to perpetuate social deviance. GCU conducts community outreach to local areas that are struggling with poverty. After reading the GCU Statement on Integrating Faith and Work document, how might the CWV (Christian World view)influence the way to address this social problem?

For your first reaction paper, find some piece of media that is related to or centered around the social problem of inequality (article, movie, book etc.), and then summarize it and evaluate it critically. Gender is a master status for members of western culture, and as such influences the behaviors of individuals significantly. When looking at issues of gender, sociologists look to explain both how individual construct their understanding of gender and how society more largely defines and enforces gender norms. In  your discussion, explain the social purpose of the unpaid labor of women that Hochschild terms “the second shift” using both the functionalist and conflict theorist perspectives. How would a functionalist explain the behavior of women who continue to perform the majority of housework even after joining the workforce? How would a conflict theorist explain the relationship between genders as it is represented by this disparity in labor in the home?

After reading about the history and development of sociology, how do you believe sociology fits in with other scientific disciplines? What makes sociology unique in the world of science and scientific research? How does it compare to other courses you’ve taken in disciplines, such as psychology, philosophy, and economics, that also study human life?

Program evaluation procedures can help you identify the needs of a population as you develop programs. They can also help you identify portions of the population who are not accessing services once a program is implemented. In this assignment, you examine issues related to access to services and how program evaluation procedures can be used to address those issues. To Prepare Review the Interactive Learning Community’s Community Center and High School in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the demographics present in the New Harbor High School. Then consider how you could apply research methods to increasing participation in marriage and relationship education programs to one of the largest disadvantaged and/or ethnically diverse families in the community. Use the data from the High School, to choose a population. Finally, consider the measurement and data collection methods presented in the course text and how they could be applied to this issue. The Assignment (2–3 pages) Identify the disadvantaged and/or ethnically diverse population you have chosen in this week’s Interactive Learning Community and why you choose that population to focus on. Explain how, as a researcher, you would increase participation of your chosen disadvantaged and/or ethnically diverse populations in marriage and relationship education programs based on their needs. The combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to provide more valid, reliable, and generalizable results in research is known as “Mixed Methods” Research. Explain the types of quantitative measures (detailed in this week’s readings) and qualitative data collection methods (detailed in Week 4’s readings) you would employ to obtain more valid, reliable and generalizable results for a program evaluation of the marriage and relationship education programs.

The death of a loved one is a significant event that everyone experiences. An individual’s social environment, including societal and familial cultural factors, may influence how an individual approaches death or grieves the loss of someone else who dies. You can anticipate addressing grief in your social work practice and, therefore, should develop an understanding of the grieving process. Models of grieving may identify stages through which an individual progresses in response to the death of a loved one; however, these stages do not necessarily occur in lockstep order. People who experience these stages may do so in different order or revisit stages in a circular fashion. Understanding the various ways individuals cope with grief helps you to anticipate their responses and to assist them in managing their grief. Select one model of grieving to address in this assignment. Addressing the needs of grieving family members can diminish your personal emotional, mental, and physical resources. In addition to developing strategies to assist grieving individuals in crisis, you must develop strategies that support self-care. In this Assignment, you apply a grieving model to work with families in a hospice environment and suggest strategies for self-care. By Day 7 Submit a 2- to 4-page paper in which you: Explain how you, as a social worker, might apply the grieving model you selected to your work with families in a hospice environment. Explain why you selected to use the grieving model you selected versus other models of grief.
