Write a paper 5-7 pages in length with 12 point font and one inch margins. In addition to drawing on readings assigned or recommended in this course, you should cite an additional 3-5 academic sources. For this project you will need to identify a nation (China, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, etc..) or other political economy (European Union, etc…) of interest.  For the country of your choice, make a thesis assertion which you will defend with critical analysis applying a socio-economic theory, law, model or policy, backed by research.  The following paragraph is taken from page 5-23 of the Political Military Analysis Handbook dated April 20, 2006. While economics or any other single political military analytical system cannot tell the whole story, its pervasive impact on domestic politics, foreign policy, defense policy, and diplomacy dictates its prominent place in the analyst’s repertoire of tools. Decisions always incur costs, and in today’s intricate international system, they often have both an economic impetus and an economic impact. As such, foreign policy can neither be understood nor predicted without consideration of the economic dimension (p. 5-23, Political Military Analysis Handbook). A sense of self is developed through roles and statuses that are reinforced through social structures and that shape our personal experiences. Roles are patterns of behavior that we use every day to reflect our social status, such as the role of parent, worker, daughter/son, student,neighbor, etc. Each of these roles is associated with a different status. Social institutions are systems and structures that shape the activities of groups and individuals in society. Family, education, and religion are examples of social institutions that affect the everyday lives of people at a micro-level.   Complete the 10-slide Socialization and Self-Identity Presentation Template on socialization and its influence on our self-identities. Part A Objective: Describe the ways culture influences aggressive behavior. Sandy’s college friend, Matt, is a biology major. He’s convinced that human aggression is innate. It’s woven into our DNA. Karen, a student of social psychology, wants to explain social identity theory to Molly, a fellow student majoring in math. Karen realizes she’ll need to enumerate the pros and cons of (1) social identity, (2) ethnocentrism, (3) in-group bias, and (4) out-group homogeneity. Imagine you’re Karen, and based on what you’ve learned from Chapter 13, write an essay in which you explain social identity theory to Molly. Part C Objective: Briefly describe five aspects and components of prejudice using examples. Based on Chapter 13 of your textbook, write an essay that addresses the following topics: (1) The definition of prejudice; (2) the affect component of prejudice; (3) the cognitive component of prejudice; (4) the nature of stereotypes, and (5) the behavioral component of prejudice. You should provide examples of each concept based on your text and/or on your personal experience.

You need to write a five-page analytical essay on a specific issue of ethnic diversity in America. Specifically, you need to (a) dwell on a specific “ethnicity and diversity” case or issue in America; (b) identify the discriminator and his or her discriminatory acts in the case; (c) pinpoint any possible victim and his or her victimization experiences in the case; (d) explore social factors and forces underlying the discrimination in the case and its escalation, alleviation, or continuation; and (e) fetch from the case some sociological knowledge and insights for general understanding.

This entry should include:? THREE big (central, important) ideas or themes from the reading.? TWO items of interest (quotations or facts you found intriguing).? 1. An Abstract (a short summary of your paper in 150-250 words) 2. A specific Title.  3. Toulmin/Aristotelian method of argument. Be mindful of the use of rhetorical devices in your paper. Try to avoid any personal references as this is not a narrative essay but a research article. Make sure to maintain “critical engagement” with the texts in discussion (both primary and secondary). Don’t state the obvious!  4.  A 2-3 paragraph introduction followed by a specific thesis statement. Don’t forget to add a line or two communicating the research plan/the structure of your paper (this will allow a reader to easily navigate between different parts and make sure that it all makes sense).  5.   The body paragraphs containing at least three points/sub-claims. Adequate, specific, relevant, well-researched evidence to support your points. Don’t forget to integrate sources properly in the MLA format. Don’t forget to critically analyze your sources: your voice should not be compensated for completely by the sources. In other words, you should analyze your sources and add your perspectives on them and on the argument. 6. The sub-claims/different points you make should all contribute to the main thesis statement/claim of your paper (consider at least 3 or more subclaims with 4 or more evidences to support each of these subclaims in detail). 7. The paper should have a rebuttal section that consists of both the rebuttal and the refutation (refer to lectures  on the Toulmin method). 8. Conclusion (at least one large paragraph). 9. Works Cited page in the MLA format (should not be included in the first 10 pages of your essay. As mentioned, the essay itself has to be at least 10-12 pages in length). 10. Paper should be formatted in the MLA style (centered titled, last name, page number, your information on the top-left, separate Works Cited page, etc).   11. Make sure your in-text citations are properly done. 12. For this paper, use at least 2 or more scholarly sources from peer-reviewed journals/books/chapters by subject-matter experts.

This final paper is on President Donald Trump. You must admit he is a different type of president no matter what you think of him. So, Max Weber wrote that authority is derived from three sources: Traditional, Rational-Legal, or Charismatic. You will find discussion of the PowerPoint on Organizations. Which one is President Trump? Why? Move away from your personal opinion of him. Think about the reasons he won. Perhaps he is a combination of two or three. The second question is bit trickier: is his power, in the view of those who oppose him, legitimate or illegible? The difference between the two is whether one accepts his authority or is coerced into it. Finally , part three deals with power. Functionalists believe that the power diffuses among different interest groups so that no one person can control the country. Conflict theories feel that the power elite run everything despite who is president or in congress. So, does Trump presidency matter? If we believe the functionalists, then our system of checks and balances will prevent significant. If we believe the conflict theorists, then Trump and his ilk have already been running things and this election doesn’t change it. Do either views make a point ? Why? Your defense of the answer is more important than the answer. It is about what you think those who voted for him, and those who did not were thinking and feeling. Follow standard formatting. 12point, double space, keep normal margins, MLA or APA format.

Choose a general topic that you are interested in. Use the Area of Interest interactive to guide your efforts. Narrow the topic so that you are looking for research to answer a particular question. For example: “What is the experience of military families when their soldier is deployed?” or “Is there a link between hours of television viewing and violent behavior in children aged 8-14?” Think of a question that might be answered in a number of different ways. Briefly describe your topic and research question. Conduct a search through the and locate a minimum of five (5) research studies from peer-reviewed sources that are related to the topic of your choice. Find at least two studies that use qualitative data and at least two studies that use quantitative data. Write a 350-word (double-spaced) synopsis/review of each article in your own words. Be sure to read the article fully to accomplish this goal. Do NOT simply rely on the Abstract, as the Abstract is limited in two ways: 1) it omits important information you might find useful; and, 2) it does not describe all aspects of the research that you will need for your literature review in Week 3. Thus, be sure to discuss what you find significant about the study for your topic, not just, what the author thought. The assignment should include: A brief discussion of your topic and research question. For each article, turn in The citation (properly formatted in APA style), The article’s original abstract. Your one-page synopsis, and Whether the study is a quantitative approach (uses statistical analyses) or a qualitative approach.

This paper will be an in-depth analysis of a current social welfare policy such as the Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) Follow the framework of social policy analysis and consider the history of the policy, the cost, its effectiveness, and its future. This paper must address and discuss the Human Services values relevant to the topic. References must be cited correctly with a reference list included. The paper must follow in APA format.

In 4 double-spaced pages write a reflection on how a social problem that you are interested in can be analyzed using a concept that you learned in class. Feel free to organize your writing in the following order: – Identify a social problem (Try to mention why you consider that a ‘social problem’ by referring to the sociological criteria discussed in class) – Choose a concept discussed in the readings that you consider relevant to the social problem you are interested in studying. – Make a brief description of your chosen concept and try to reflect briefly on why you think that concept would be useful to write your reflection. – Express your research question and write, on max. 3 pages, a sociological answer to it. Develop and identify your argument within the text. – Feel free to refer and cite any number of newspaper articles, journal articles and books. I will provide you with citation format examples. This assignment is intended to provide you with the opportunity to engage with the course material as it relates to present everyday life in the context of the communities in which we live. Try to write about what really interest you.
