Question 1: Make lists of the qualities and life situations attributable to Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad. What do you find similar about them, and what do you find that is different? What conclusions do you come to as a result of your research and analysis? Question 2: Having explored Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, what do you feel monotheistic traditions have in common? How are they similar or different from polytheistic religions? What meaning do your analyses suggest?

Instructions Identify which right or rights are being violated in the following scenarios. Come up with a passive, aggressive, manipulative and assertive response. As a reminder, here is the list of rights: Right The right to decide how to lead your life. This includes pursuing your own goals and dreams and establishing your own priorities. The right to your own values, beliefs, opinions, and emotions – and the right to respect yourself for them, no matter the opinion of others. The right not to justify or explain your actions or feelings to others. The right to tell others how you wish to be treated. The right to express yourself and to say “No,” “I don’t know,” “I don’t understand,” or even “I don’t care.” You have the right to take the time you need to formulate your ideas before expressing them. The right to ask for information or help – without having negative feelings about your needs. The right to change your mind, to make mistakes, and to sometimes act illogically – with full understanding and acceptance of the consequences. The right to like yourself even though you’re not perfect, and to sometimes do less than you are capable of doing. The right to have positive, satisfying relationships within which you feel comfortable and free to express yourself honestly – and the right to change or end relationships if they don’t meet your needs. The right to change, enhance, or develop your life in any way you determine. 1. You are working at a day program. You and a co-worker are responsible for running a support group at 9AM. Your co-worker habitually arrives at 9:10AM. 2. For the third time this month your sister drops by your house unexpectedly. She is dropping off “Little Johnny”. She says, “I have to go grocery shopping and you know what a problem Johnny can be. It will only be for a couple of hours.” 3. You have been hired to provide recreational programs for a group of adolescents “at-risk”. The duties are very demanding. At least once or twice a week your supervisor pulls you from your office to run errands: “Could you take the van and pick up the new flyers?” “We need you to take some time this week to organize the stock room.” “I’ll let you go a little bit early today if you’ll pick my daughter up from dance class”. All of these “extras” are clearly not in your job description. 4. In the middle of a support group you are leading a client lights up a cigarette. This is against agency’s policy. 5. You are leaving work for the day. As you pass through the waiting room a woman pulls you aside and says, “Hi, I’m Lisa’s step-mother. [Lisa is a child you are working with.] I know what my husband has told you, but Lisa has some problems he hasn’t told you and I don’t think you’re dealing with them here. I’m surprised that you haven’t picked up on this. Do you have a minute?” 6. Afternoons from 1 – 2PM has been designated as your office time to work on reports. This happens to coincide with the second shift lunch hour and a co-worker often drops by your office to chat about her divorce. As a result you do not get your reports done and you end up working on them in the evening. Complete this assignment in a Word document and upload to the Dropbox. This assignment is worth 30 points. To prepare: View this week’s media, Parker (Episode 30). Think of the many names and labels you may have heard to describe persons with disabilities and those that are currently socially acceptable. The changing monikers given to those with disabilities are evidence of the continual negotiation of the society who labels and those who are so labeled to define what disability is and who is disabled. What do these shifting labels suggest about the social construction of disability? Society is inconsistent in its treatment and protection of the rights of individuals with disabilities, creating a situation that contributes to marginalization that can complicate other forms of marginalization and oppression. Consider that being labeled with a disability can be simultaneously something to be fought against because of the stigma it entails and fought for because of the access that it grants to social services that meet basic medical needs, aid economic survival, and improve access to education that society can otherwise deny. By Day 5 Post an analysis of the implications of the social construction of disability. Describe how disability can be defined as a social construct. Explain how that relates to the perception of disability. Be specific and draw on examples from the Parker case to illustrate your thoughts. Also, describe the intersection of Stephanie’s mental illness with other characteristics of her identity. Explain how those intersections could serve to further marginalize Stephanie’s place and experiences in society. Finally, explain how such marginalization impacts her ability to make choices, use self-determination, and be an active agent with equitable status in her interactions with other professionals. Second part  Separating fact from fiction is imperative when learning how to recognize and respond appropriately, and effectively, to victim/survivors, and bystanders/witnesses, of sexual violence. Although a large majority of sexual assaults do not happen in public settings, in some cases, they do. This is when it is important to understand the experience of the bystander. Bystander intervention can help to explain how, when, and where these kinds of assaults take place; at times, it may even prevent the assault from happening. For this week’s Discussion, watch the video case study of Talia. Locate research on bystander intervention by Victoria L. Banyard and/or Sarah McMahon. By Day 5 Post your application of the theory of bystander intervention to the behavior of those exhibited in the video. Then, describe a scenario in which a bystander could have influenced this scenario in a different way. Please use the Learning Resources to support your answer

For this assignment you will write about gender stratification and sexuality.  For the past several years, the topic of equal rights for persons with any gender identity. For this assignment, please explore the topic of discrimination based on sex, gender, or sexuality. Please select on issue to examine related to discriminatory practices against persons based on their biological or chosen identities. Examples of paper topics could include: transgender military ban, marriage equality, equal pay for men and women in the workplace, gender neutral restrooms, and single sex educational institutions. Be sure to discuss the arguments raised by those who support and oppose equal rights

Present a diversity of perspectives on the issue ideologies behind systematic racism and support your arguments with research from credible academic sources.  Analysis should be in-depth (2-3 paragraphs for each level of the analysis model). The main ideology would be white supremacy.

Discussion Assignment 2: Social Class  COLLAPSE As our textbook explains, education is one of the most important characteristics that contributes to social class. Many studies completed over several decades have confirmed that higher levels of education are linked to higher income. The chart below, from a sociological study called The Rising Cost of Not Going To College, shows the difference in average income for people who have various educational backgrounds. For people aged 25-32, having a college degree means $17,000 per year more in annual income. There is a large (and growing) gap between the incomes of those who have not completed a college degree and those who have. The authors of the study argue that people pay a high price for not completing college. Unfortunately, sociological research also suggests that many Americans face obstacles to completing their educations and these obstacles are often linked to social class. What do you think could be done to improve access to education, particularly college education, in this country? If Sean Reardon’s research about the income achievement gap (described in the video assigned in the Unit 7 presentation) is correct, what could cities like Baltimore do to improve educational opportunities for the youngest children? What are some ways that low-income families could be provided with guidance, support, or other resources to help them prepare their children for college? Can you think of other ways to make college more accessible?

Using at least 3 journal articles, compare and contrast three different religious views on family violence. Make sure to address both the positive and negative viewpoints. Include any controversies over the interpretations of texts that may lead to religious related maltreatment, as well as any risk factors, or psychological, sexual or neglectful maltreatment of family members.
