Go to Project Implicit website (https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/). You will see an area where you can set the language (there is an American flag). Select the language you would like and click the orange “Go!” Read the disclosures and click “I wish to proceed” at the bottom of the page. You will not be required to disclose your personal results. You should select and complete the Weapons IAT. (This website is live and can be updated. If Weapons IAT is not functioning when you use it, simply select another race-based IAT such as Race IAT, Native IAT, Skin-tone IAT, or Asian IAT.) Complete the survey and get your results. At the end of the survey, you will also see data about how most people responded to the survey. Answer the following questions: How do most people do on the IAT? How can you relate this finding (as you summarized in question 1) to what you learned about media representations of criminals? Do you have any concerns with how the IAT works? This research project will provide you with the opportunity to conduct a sociological analysis on a topic of your choosing. You will write a 4-6 page, not including the title page or reference page, analysis of an issue of your choice. For this paper, you will need to do some outside research to explore your topic and use course concepts to analyze and organize your findings. One source must be a peer reviewed journal article, and the last source is your choice, but it must be legitimate. You will also need a reference page listing your sources. The length of the paper (4-6 pages) requires you to condense a lot of material, be sure that you narrow your topic down to a workable paper.

Framing Social Problems AssignmentHow do controversial social problems tend to be framed in our culture and media in ways that distort issues, dismiss/ignore rational proof and credible empirical evidence, and misplace the bulk of blame on individuals? For this project assignment, I would you like you to choose a public problem and apply framing analysis in a way that highlights these dynamics. Short Paper 2 PromptWrite an essay of 3-5 pages about the intersection of race, class and gender on your sexuality and romantic relationships. How does race play a factor in who you date? Class?
