Statistics Media Program

Review this week’s Learning Resources and the Descriptive Statistics media program. For additional support, review the Skill Builder: Visual Displays for Categorical Variables and the Skill Builder: Visual Displays for Continuous Variables, which you can find by navigating back to your Blackboard Course Home Page. From there, locate the Skill Builder link in the left navigation pane. Review the Chapter 4 of the Wagner text and the examples in the SPSS software related to central tendency and variability. From the General Social Survey dataset found in this week’s Learning Resources, use the SPSS software and choose one continuous and one categorical variable Note: this dataset will be different from your Assignment dataset). As you review, consider the implications for positive social change based on the results of your data.   Post, present, and report a descriptive analysis for your variables, specifically noting the following: For your continuous variable: Report the mean, median, and mode. What might be the better measure for central tendency? (i.e., mean, median, or mode) and why? Report the standard deviation. How variable are the data? How would you describe this data? What sort of research question would this variable help answer that might inform social change? Post the following information for your categorical variable: A frequency distribution. An appropriate measure of variation. How variable are the data? How would you describe this data? What sort of research question would this variable help answer that might inform social change? Was the presentation of results clear? If so, provide some specific comments on why. If not, provide constructive suggestions. Are you able to understand how the results might relate back to positive social change? Do you think there are other aspects of positive social change related to the results?     Review this week’s Learning Resources and the Central Tendency and Variability media program. For additional support, review the Skill Builder: Measures of Central Tendency for Continuous Variables, Skill Builder: Standard Deviation as a Measure of Variability for Continuous Variables and the Skill Builder: Measures of Central Tendency and Variability for Categorical Variables, which you can find by navigating back to your Blackboard Course Home Page. From there, locate the Skill Builder link in the left navigation pane. Using the SPSS software, open the Afrobarometer dataset or the High School Longitudinal Study dataset from your Assignment in Week 2. Choose the same two variables you chose from your Week 2 Assignment and perform the appropriate descriptive analysis of the data. Once you perform your descriptive analysis, review Chapter 11 of the Wagner text to understand how to copy and paste your output into your Word document. Write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis of your descriptive analysis results and include a copy and paste your output from your analysis into your final document. Based on the results of your data, provide a brief explanation of what the implications for social change might be. Early in your Assignment, when you relate which dataset you analyzed, please include the mean of the following variables. If you are using the Afrobarometer Dataset, report the mean of Q1 (Age). If you are using the HS Long Survey Dataset, report the mean of X1SES.

Personal Journal

A social media or blog post for the public the book is feminist city by Leslie kern Topic A topic is what something is about. Look through your personal journal entries, discussion board posts, or any other writing you’ve done to help you think of some specific ideas, feelings, experiences, arguments, events, etc., you might want to write about. What will the topic(s) of your review be? How will this topic help you achieve the purpose of your review? How will your topic(s) “speak to” (be important or interesting for) your audience? How will you write about this topic in the format you’ve chosen? Purpose Our book reviews will a kind of intentional writing – this means you are writing for a reason which could be to persuade someone, to express your thoughts or ideas, to summarize or analyze, to spread awareness or knowledge, etc. What will be the purpose of your book review? How will the topic, purpose, and format you’ve chosen help you achieve your goal? Audience An intended audience is the specific person, or group of people you have in mind when you’re writing, such as a general audience (anyone interested), a group of scholars, your family, friends, or other close acquaintances, your social media followers, etc. Who will be the intended audience for your book review? Consider the characteristics of your audience (what they are like) – are they college students? young people? a previous generation? Are they likely to agree with you? What (if anything) do they already know about the topic? How will your intended audience influence the topic, purpose, or format of your writing? Format and Style Format refers to the norms about the way something is arranged, presented, or how it works. For example, music can come in different formats including a record, a CD, a downloadable file, streaming, etc. Style is the way in which something is written, as opposed to the meaning of what is written. Consider the length of the text, how formal or casual your writing will be, what vocabulary you’ll use or avoid (including words a Sociologist might use and/or popular or slang terms), whether you’ll write in a personal way that includes your own thoughts and feelings, or whether you’ll be “objective” (objective can be a problematic idea because all knowledge comes from somewhere. However, you might try to make your writing more “universal” meaning that you might choose a style that you think speaks to many people about what we have in common. Hint: it’s not just white men who get to define what we have in common) What format and style will you choose? How will you explain or express your topic, and achieve your purpose using this style? Why is this format and style the one you’ve chosen for your audience?

Basis Of Ethics

Final Project Some broad topics that you may wish to investigate: Are we Morally Free or are things Determined? Can humanity live peacefully? The Basis of Ethics: Reason or Emotion? What is the source of morality? How does understanding ourselves help us to live morally with others? Is the intention more important or the consequence of action? Does Religion provide a moral basis? Is Altruism possible? Does friendship play a part in our morality? Does “knowing” constitute ethical obligation? Some particular topics that you may wish to look at Bio-Medical: Abortion, Access to Health Care, Cloning, Euthanasia, Informed Consent, Palliative Care, Reproductive Technologies Business: Affirmative Action, Child Labor, Employer Obligations, Employee Rights, Job Discrimination, Sexual Harassment, Whistle-Blowing, Working Conditions Political: Affirmative Action, Capital Punishment, Civil Disobedience, Equality, Human Rights, Racism, Sexism, Social Justice, Taxation, Terrorism, War Environmental: Animal Consumption, Animal Research, Air Pollution, Water Pollution These are just a few of the many topics that you may wish to consider for the paper. Remember to notify me about your topic if you change it from what it was in your rough draft. Requirements 1. 1200-1500 words in an MS Word document. 2. Choose a standard style of formatting, either APA, MLA, or Turabian, and stay with it throughout 3. Works Cited page–remember to include at least two references (this does not include Wikipedia) 4. Follow the usual standards as well 5. For the final project you must use two ethical perspectives you learned in the course in your approach to your chosen topic (Metaethics, Normative Ethics, Lao Tzu, Confucius, Siddhartha Gautama, Epictetus, Dilemmas, Altruism, Egoism, Universalism, Relativism, Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Epicurus, Bentham Utilitarianism, Mill Utilitarianism, Kant/Deontology, Human Rights, Existentialism, Feminist Ethics, Divine Command, Agape Ethics, Ethics of Non-Violence, Ethics of Mysticism) .  You may employ them to show where you think they are correct or where they are incorrect, you may contrast them or show how both agree on a point.  How you utilize these two perspectives is up to you.   Suggestions 1. Present a introduction that tells the reader what you will do. 2. Divide up the body of the work into comprehensible parts. 3. Don’t be afraid to use headings that act as a “signpost” telling the reader where you are going. 4. Avoid tendentiousness; you do not have to show that your position has all the answers and that the opposition has none. Be aware that there is probably at least one good argument from the “other side.” How will you deal with this? 5. Provide a summing-up conclusion that tells the reader what you learned or what insights you gained. Advice 1.  Remember that this is an Ethics paper from beginning to end.  If you present a report that offers information then at the end you conclude in a paragraph whether you think it is right or wrong or unknown, then that is another kind of paper.  2.  You have studied various philosophers and philosophies the past four months, so one way to tackle this paper is to take one or two of the views you admired and contrast it with another.  In any case, when you provide another look at the issue you should include a view you learned.

Digital Age

Answer all 3 of the following questions. I don’t need an intro or conclusion, but answer in full sentences for every question. Point form will not be accepted. These are not opinion questions. All of your answers must draw on class material and capture all elements of the major debates for each class and study. Develop your answers thoroughly. While I can’t regulate whether you are working in groups or not, your papers will be marked independently. I understand that there will be some similarities as you will be drawing from the same studies in your answers, but anything more than minor similarities will be considered plagiarism. Additionally, you should be using your own words to develop your answers. What I mean by this is that simply quoting a study is not acceptable. Quoting a study and then explaining in your own words is acceptable. If the quote is longer than your own explanation, this is an indication that you need to further develop your answer.    1. What do the boundaries of gamer identity mean?
