Here is the question for Essay Test 2:  What everyday problems do the Azande people solve using magical means (supernatural or spiritual means, oracles, witchcraft, shamans, etc.) to get answers or solutions to their everyday problems, and how do they go about doing it?  Your job is to explain the details in your own words.  Suggested length is three paragraphs (about 400-500 words or 1.5 double-spaced pages).   Longer is okay.  Shorter is not likely to earn a high grade.  More details is better.  Organization and clarity are important.  Use of anthropological terms is important.     Essay Test 2 is about Azande Witchcraft, and is based on the assigned film, “Witchcraft Among the Azande.”  The link to the film is provided under Weekly Sessions – Week 6.  Film Link is Attached PPT is Attached

1. The Apostle Paul is responsible for having written not only a large portion of the New Testament he is also one of its major characters. Discuss the various ways he influenced and helped to establish the early church as well as his contributions to the New Testament (200 words) 2. Due: Monday, Nov. 2nd by class time. Refer to the reading Hochschild, A. R., & Machung, A. (2003). In 75- 150 words explain on what are some reasons ( suggested by the readings) why Black and Brown executives are under-represented in the music industry? How does thinking about representation help us to better understand our sociological imagination question, what is happening behind the scenes in the structure of hip hop? Choose 2 concepts that we have discussed in class so far that relate to the readings for this week. Be sure to explain how and why they relate.

Please watch the 6 vignettes in the video that demonstrating various group dynamics and group leader interventions. The videos will start from the beginning, so to bypass the “pre-session commentary”, go to the right of the video screen, under “Chapters”, and select “Vignette 1” then “Vignette 2a” and then “Vignettes 2b, 3a, 3b, and 4” respectively. Group Therapy for Addictions: A Relapse Prevention Approach – approximately 1 hour and 23 minutes, including the commentary. A transcript of the video will be uploaded in case you do not have access to the video. What stage of group development (Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing) would you identify was likely the stage for each group vignette?  What main group theme or specific group dynamic did you observe in each vignette? What did you see as the role of the group leader, and was the leader role group focused, individual focused, or leader focused? What specific group leader interventions did you observe, i.e. at least one intervention that you noticed in each of the 5 vignettes?   What advantages did you see in the approach of group counseling/therapy with addicted populations? What were are possible disadvantages of this approach? How well did the group members understand group purposes and task to help each other address their addiction and any related thinking and behaviors?  What might you have done differently if you were the group leader?

Determine who controls the distribution of your chosen popular culture artifacts/elements. In what ways does the controller of distribution affect the shared experience of the audience and community?
